Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot gets a three month delay

Hellboy David HarbourDOG SOLDIERS / THE DESCENT director Neil Marshall's reboot of the HELLBOY franchise had been scheduled to be released on January 11, 2019, but distributor Lionsgate has announced that they're pushing the film back three months.

HELLBOY's new April 12, 2019 release will get it away from 20th Century Fox's Brad Pitt / Tommy Lee Jones sci-fi thriller epic AD ASTRA, but now HELLBOY will be hitting theatres just one week after the DC Comics movie SHAZAM! and on the same weekend as Universal's THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE, which stars Robert Downey Jr. It sounds like HELLBOY is going to get overshadowed on that date. But since this is an R-rated, horrific reboot of the property, it does offer some counterprogramming to those family friendly movies.

Starring Stranger Things' David Harbour as the title character, this new HELLBOY film finds

Hellboy, along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.

The screenplay was written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Harbour's co-stars include Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as his love interest Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio (who can turn into a jaguar), Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin, and Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue, Queen of Blood.
