New Doom a low-budget, direct-to-DVD sequel?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It was just last week we that we passed along the killer news that Universal is currently working on a new film based on the classic POV shooter video game DOOM. But today's news is a bit disheartening as it seems that the reboot/sequel is being handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment.

Universal 1440 Entertainment is a division of Universal that handles their low-budget straight-to-video movies such as all those TREMORS sequels, all those JARHEAD sequels, all those DRAGONHEART sequels, and all those DEATH RACE sequels.

Weak.

On a brighter note, while the film will likely be sent straight to Walmarts and Redbox's, there is the possibility that the film could appear on a digital platform like Netflix. Fingers crossed…

How do you feel about the new DOOM movie being handled by Universal's low-budget straight-to-video subsidiary? Make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think in the comments below or on social media!

Synopsis:

A team of space marines known as the Rapid Response Tactical Squad, led by Sarge (The Rock), is sent to a science facility on Mars after somebody reports a security breach. There, they learn that the alert came after a test subject, a mass murderer purposefully injected with alien DNA, broke free and began killing people. Dr. Grimm (Rosamund Pike), who is related to team member Reaper (Karl Urban), informs them all that the chromosome can mutate humans into monsters — and is highly infectious.

We'll let you know when we hear more!
