Penn Jillette and Adam Rifkin deliver a deadly Director’s Cut

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Writer/magician/comedian/Bullsh*t exposer Penn Jillette has teamed with Adam Rifkin, the director of such films as THE DARK BACKWARD, THE CHASE, DETROIT ROCK CITY, a segment of CHILLERAMA, and (under the name Rif Coogan) PSYCHO COP RETURNS to make the horror/comedy DIRECTOR'S CUT, which has been chosen to be the opening night film at the Slamdance Film Festival.

Made possible through over $1 million worth of contributions on the crowdfunding site FundAnything, DIRECTOR'S CUT stars Jillette as

a deranged lunatic named Herbert Blount who, after donating a large sum of money to a crowdfunded horror movie, gets access to the shoot. He then seeks to replace the movie’s real director and make the film on his own, first by stealing the footage, then kidnapping the lead actress (Missi Pyle) and reshooting scenes for his own version. The story unfolds via the director’s commentary over his new cut.

Harry Hamlin, Hayes MacArthur, Lin Shaye, Teller, Nestor Carbonell, Gilbert Gottfried, and Kirsty Hill (a.k.a. Sophie Dee) also star.

DIRECTOR'S CUT will be making its premiere at Slamdance this Friday, January 22nd with a 6:45pm screening at the Ballroom at Treasure Mountain Inn that will be attended by Jillette, Pyle, Hamlin, and Teller. A second screening will be held at 9:10pm.

To help build up excitement ahead of the premiere, Deadline has shared a trailer for the film that isn't officially a red band trailer, but would be for some salty language. If the trailer seems a bit bland to you at first, just stick with it until Herbet Blount takes over about halfway through… and be prepared for a descent into total insanity.
