R Rating sticks for the Sam Raimi-produced genre flick The Possession

Man Ole Bornedal’s THE POSSESSION just can’t seem to catch a break. First the flick scores itself an unoriginal synopsis and a horrible title. Then it gets delayed countless times. Then it gets an ever worse title, followed by more delays. And now the project is trying to ditch it’s R Rating! … Come on already!

Now I say trying because according to Variety THE POSSESSION has failed at trying to lower it’s rating from an R to a PG-13. Last month the Classification and Rating Administration had tapped THE POSSESSION with an R rating for
“violence, terror, and disturbing images.” The powers that be appealed that shite and the MPAA has decided to stick with the R.

Here’s a little suggestion to producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert: Stick with the R rating! Embrace that shite! Especially when there’s a horror flick that’s rated R for terror and disturbing images! That must mean there’s some pretty messed up shite going on… and that’s a good thing!

The film will follow Clyde Breneck and his 10-year-old daughter, Em, who purchases an antique box at a yard sale. With the box, Em accidentally releases an ancient spirit that has one goal: to devour her. Clyde must team work with his ex-wife to put an end to the curse.

THE POSSESSION comes from the writing duo of Juliet Snowden and Stiles White and stars Kyra Sedgwick, Jeffery Dean Morgan, Agam Darshi (below), Natasha Calis and Madison Davenport. Now this thing currently has a release date of August 31, 2012 but that is of course subject to change… again.
