Rebooted Mortal Kombat feature film is go! Kevin Tancharoen to direct

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I suppose it was only a matter of time: New Line Cinema is moving forward with a reboot of MORTAL KOMBAT, reports Deadline.com. The new film will be based on the successful web series that ran throughout the summer MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY. Kevin Tancharoen and Oren Uziel, the director and writer – respectively – of the original unauthorized short film MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH, are both on board the feature.

No details are available yet on the story, nor do we know if the cast from the 10-episode web series – including Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan – will return. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “there is no actor attached and the new story will not serve as an extension of the game or digital series.”

Debuting in April, MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY racked up over five million views in its first week. Needless to say, New Line was convinced that the title still has plenty of life in it.
