Sinister gets a new poster and character blog

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Scott Derrickson’s SINISTER looks pretty goddamned amazing. Following great reviews after its showing at FrightFest, the film is now holding an impressive 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. To top it all off, the flick is now receiving a major viral marketing push with a new poster (below) and an official Tumblr penned under the guise of the SINISTER’S main character, Ellison Oswald.

The poster is a custom job designed to promote an advanced screening in Illinois. The showing is one of going on at various theaters across the country (check here for locations and dates near you) before receiving wide release October 5th. Strictly in terms of design it’s elegant, simple, and bloody as hell.

Next, we have the Ellison Oswald’s Tumblr. On it, the character (played by Ethan Hawk in the film) details his creative process, discusses inspiration, and doles out info on the book he is writing in the film. It’s a wonderfully meta idea that’s executed very well, coming off as a genuine writer’s journal. As a nerd for writing about writing and fourth wall breaking viral marketing, the blog offers a lot of appeal and I highly suggest following it.

It also doesn’t hurt that I’m genuinely psyched to see SINISTER. The film stars Hawk, Vincent D’Onofrio, James Ransone, and Fred Dalton Thomas. Check out the synopsis and new poster below and tell us whether or not you’re ready to get SINISTER this October.

Sinister is a frightening new thriller from the producer of the Paranormal Activity films and the writer-director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.
