Talisman demo scene

For a while, I had high hopes that the Stephen King / Peter Straub epic THE TALISMAN would be made for the big screen. Steven Speilberg and Kathleen Kennedy were interested in making it, but for a TNT miniseries, as the scope is far too large for a single movie. Hell, I’d take a miniseries featuring Jack Sawyer and his quest to another world any day of the week!

But of course, that has since fell through, and now it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. The prospective budget is just way too high, options are being weighed… yada yada yada.

The boys over at SlashFilm scored a peep at a demo scene directed by Mathieu Ratthe–an ambitious director who just wanted to show his skills and say to the world–yo, I can bring this puppy to the big screen! Hire me!

Well, actually, what he said was My main objective for creating this piece is to demonstrate my directing ability and my vision to the producers who own the rights to the story. You can check out the six minute plus scene below (The Hotel Room), then spit some bullets at your take. How does the dude do? Besides the kid creepin’ me out (I never liked that guy), the scene is well-shot and it sucked me in! If anyone can bring this beast to the big screen, this guy can!

Let’s just hope someone out there (someone with power in the movie world) is watching…
