The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to be partially shot in IMAX

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Lionsgate revealed that THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is headed to IMAX screens come November 2013. No big shocker, given that THE HUNGER GAMES opened in IMAX as well, but it looks like the sequel will make use of the technology to a much larger extent than its predecessor. Even better, director Francis Lawrence will actually film certain sequences using IMAX cameras. The entire film will also be digitally remastered into the format. Good to hear the decision being made so early in the movie’s production, meaning it won’t be a quick by-the-numbers conversion.

Lionsgate head honchos Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger appear very enthusiastic as to seeing the follow-up to their recent blockbuster on the massive IMAX screens. As they’ve told THR: “We are thrilled to continue the productive partnership we enjoyed with Imax on the first installment of The Hunger Games”.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is set to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013, starring Jennifer Lawrence (below), Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.
