We now have dueling KRAMPUS projects!

Just two weeks ago we let you know that Kevin Smith had formally begun developing ANTI-CLAUS, which was once known as COME THE KRAMPUS. Now, Legendary pictures has tapped TRICK R' TREAT helmer Michael Dougherty to direct the horror-comedy KRAMPUS, which indeed similarly focuses on a holiday-themed monster

The Krampus, in case you're wondering, is a beast-like creature who terrorizes naughty children during the Christmas season. He may have been under the radar before, but he's sure making headlines now!

Daugherty, who worked with Legendary on TRICK R' TREAT (and is currently developing the sequel with the production company), had this to say:

The dark ancient origins of our holidays have always fascinated me, Dougherty said. Ive been drawing twisted Christmas cards for well over a decade, so it only made sense to bring some of that morbid yuletide fun to the big screen, and Krampus was the perfect mythology to do that. Christmas has been invading Halloween for far too long. Its time to return the favor."

The screenplay was co-written by Todd Casey and Zach Shield. No word on when this goes into production, but clearly we've got plenty of Krampus in our future.

I'm in, but...

does this mean he won't be helming the Trick R' Treat sequel? I prefer he direct the sequel rather than just produce. Those usually don't turn out so great, yes, I'm referring to you Hatchet III, et al.

Great Choice!

With Dougherty attached this already surpasses my interest with the Smith film. If he brings even a small amount of the holiday treatment that we saw in Trick R' Treat this one it will be worth watching. He can obviously grasp the folklore of a holiday well, should be neat to see what he does with Christmas...
