What Get Out scene made Jordan Peele cry?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

This past month we received the amazing news that writer-director Jordan Peele's horror-thriller (comedy?) GET OUT was nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

We've already seen Peele's reaction to his Oscar nominations, but today we have a fun bit of news via Jordan Peele from the Audi's 2018 Writers Guild Association Beyond Words Panel in Los Angeles where the writer-director spoke about the one scene that made him cry.

Jordan Peele:

There was a point in the process where I got to something that was very vulnerable. The fun evolved into tears. I mean, when I was writing the scene about Chris in the hypnosis and The Sunken Place, I ended that day crying, and it was a cathartic thing. I wouldn't describe it as fun.

If it weren't obvious, I love Jordan Peele, GET OUT, and especially that scene in The Sunken Place. That is the scene that I think sealed Daniel Kaluuya's Best Actor nomination. What did you think of GET OUT? Do you think it deserves the nominations it received? I hope so, but either way, make sure to hit us up and let us know in the comments below or on social media!

GET OUT synopsis:

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could never have imagined.

GET OUT is written & directed by Jordan Peele and produced by Jason Blum. The horror film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, and Catherine Keener.
