The latest exciting name attached to Disney’s OZ: THE GREAT AND THE POWERFUL is Zach Braff. The “SCRUBS” star is reportedly in final talks to play the role of Frank, the loyal but under-appreciated assistant to Oz, a charismatic circus magician who is treated as a powerful wizard after his balloon blows off course into Oz and the townsfolk want him to eradicate a Wicked Witch and bring peace.

The cast already includes James Franco as Oz, Mila Kunis as Theodora, Michelle Williams as Glinda and Rachel Weisz (below) as Evanora. The film is being directed by none other than the great Sam Raimi off a script by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire.

Production is scheduled to begin on the picture, a prequel to the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, in July in Michigan. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on March 8, 2013 in 3D via Disney.
