Check out the high res banner for The Amazing Spider-Man 2! Goblin, Electro, Rhino, Oh My!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Well, we've spent a great deal of time studying the low resolution banner for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 this past week, which features Spidey facing off against the villains Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and presumably the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan???). It's the first time we've seen the film play up more than just Electro as the main villain in official marketing and based on this and the upcoming trailer (which is said to tease both Doctor Octopus and The Vulture to some degree as well), the reality of the ol' webhead tussling with the famed Sinister Six is coming closer to reality.

Check it out:

Here's the new synopsis:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

I'm more and more intrigued by this with each new piece of marketing, which is the opposite of how I felt with the first film. I'm happy to see them going for it. Although some liken this to "Spider-Man 3, Part 2" with the onslaugh of villains, I feel that this is a much more focused effort, rather than just tossing baddies in for the hell of it. This is a bridge to the Sinister Six, not just a hodgepodge of bad guys just to drive up toy sales. Although that certainly doesn't hurt the bottom line. As someone who loathed the first film, I'm feeling quite the opposite here.

Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is set to swing into theaters on May 02, 2014.
