Gary Oldman says “they’ve called” about him joining Star Wars: Episode VII

Gary Oldman has starred in huge blockbuster movies like HARRY POTTER and Christopher Nolan's Batman movies (as well as the upcoming ROBOCOP AND PLANET OF THE APES), but will he be adding another giant franchise to his filmography? Like Star Wars, perhaps?

In an interview with Sky Movies, the actor was asked if there has been any interest in him joining STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. Of course Gary Oldman couldn't reveal too much, however he did say, "They've called." Oldman goes on to say, "I'm more cynical about it now. I'll believe it when I'm on the plane home. The deal isn't done. So yeah, they've inquired." In the interview Oldman also doesn't seem that sure about signing up for another big franchise.

Gary Oldman in the new Star Wars almost sounds too good to be true…which means he'll probably pass on the project or a deal won't get made. Seriously though, who here thinks Gary Oldman joining STAR WARS: EPISODE VII would be a bad thing? What I really want to know is what role he's being considered for. Obviously he'd make a fantastic Sith, but I also think he could be an excellent Jedi. We'll have to wait and see if Gary Oldman actually does sign on for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, or if this will become another famous casting "What Ifs."

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will be released on December 18th, 2015.
