2012 teaser online

Nov. 12, 2008by: Mike Sampson

Say what you will about Roland Emmerich (and we here certainly have said our fair share) - the dude can cut a f*cking trailer. While the vast majority of his actual films have been wildly disappointing, he has the uncanny knack of creating some impactful trailers (see GODZILLA and INDEPENDENCE DAY). His new movie, 2012, doesn't really interest me in the slightest but he's at least managed to make a decent trailer out of it.

That is, perhaps, because he's borrowed from one of my favorite teasers - THE SHINING. Roland and crew lift the musical cues and match it together with an imposing wave coming towards the camera. I've included the 2012 trailer below (which you can watch in HD at Moviefone) with the SHINING teaser below it. Compare and contrast. Sadly all this has just made me want to watch THE SHINING again and I've forgotten all about 2012.

Extra Tidbit: Maybe Emmerich should just quit movies and go work for an ad agency?

I loved The Day After Tomorrow. All haters DIE... in 2012, of course. ;p But seriously, I think this will be good and can't wait to see it!

Fucking wicked

This scared the bejeesus out of me. I love natural disaster movies. They are way more more scary that someone torturing someone else for 2 hours.

WalterKovacs cracked me up good time and is probably right.

But this movie better be good because it's the last one we'll see.

How do you know that Emmerich cuts his own trailers?
Is this something know publicly? (serious question, I don't know).
I know Michael Bay does it (probably the best trailers out there). This german guy too?
Anyway, I love Emmerich movies.
He is, besides Bay, the only director in Hollywood who actually knows what a Hollywood popcorn movie is.

Oh and btw, Shining was so pathetic and bad, I always had to laugh all the way through the movie (10000 bc too)

(I hope you weren't serious

Maybe Im to easy to please but Im one of the only people that likes Godzilla 98 and I enjoyed Day After Tomorrow up until the wave hit New York, than it got boring. This looks cool, because giant waves are cool. I'll see it.

The book wasn't bad...

you just had to have the right mind set to enjoy it.

Unfortunately, the movie doesn't seem to be based off of the novel.

Based on the Book?

Is this based on the book that was released in the last couple of years? If so, that's not good. That book was a towering shitstorm of awful. I didn't even make it 100 pages, it was so bad.

i was more convinced by eric cartman when he said the world would end in the year 2012. (said this on the cult of eric cartman dvd) but it still will be pretty cool, john cusack is a great actor so i'll deff check it out.

I've got no faith in Emmerich's ability to deliver a good movie. HOWEVER, I do give him credit for the whole "Google search: 2012" thing... That's a new approach. Kinda lends a bit more credibility to the whole thing as well.

Then again, it could've said "Google search: Alarmist fear-mongering bullshit" and you'd probably get the same results. From Google that is, not at the box office.

Oh and the trailer for The Shining is just another reason why it's one of the greatest films ever made.

It'll make money like The Day After Tomorrow. People will be curious about what the hell will happen in 2012.

I've always been fascinated with the whole 2012 thing, so this takes my interest to see how it will be handled. I just hope it's not the old dull same shit we always see, and that it incorporates alot of the theories of 2012. I mean, this will probably end up being the next millenium bug deal.

All the Devlin and Emmerich movies are based on a really cool nugget of an idea.
I reckon they do great pitches to the money men. "Aliens in Mile Wide Saucers Invade Earth!". Sounds great, the imagery looks good. Sold. Here's $100 million.

And then they go and write a lame arse script chock full of "Oh no. That's just not logical" moments. I wonder if it's some secret competition they have with M Night Shamalan over who have push the boundaries of the audiences common sense the

This movie is so full of shit. Everybody knows we are gonna be flying around in cars and living in houses that float. And robots are our house maids. Waves will not be able to touch us.

Geee Whiz

Another end of the world, special effects extravaganza. I wonder if it will be any good?

Did they even write a script this time, or did they just let the effects apartment and Dennis Quaid do their thing?

It's kinda look like The Day After Tomorrow all over again. But what's with GoogleSearch? Aren't they usually end with 2012.com or Findout2012 something? Or perhaps this movie was endorsed by Google? I'm just guessing though. And that Shining trailer is wayyyyy more effective and freakin' scary/haunting.

I see the vague conceptual link, I guess. Don't think that's honestly a reason to reference it. I mean, it's such an obtuse reference to begin with..

Then again, the beats hitting right on the tolling bell were pretty cool. Still, I'd rather see The Shining.
