A new clip from Poltergeist explains what a poltergeist is; gee, thanks

05.07.2015

Horror films, more than any other genre, seem particularly prone to remakes. POLTERGEIST is the latest horror classic to have undergone the remake treatment and despite my initial concerns, I feel optimistic that it may surprise us as one of the few horror remakes that doesn't completely embarrass itself. Fingers crossed.

20th Century Fox and MGM have released a brand new clip which explains just what the family is up against; you can check that out below.

While the film doesn't look like it will differ all that much from Tobe Hooper's original film, it at least has a decent cast involved. The always great Sam Rockwell (why isn't this guy a bigger name yet?) headlines the Gil Kenan film which also counts Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, and Jane Adams amongst its cast.

POLTERGEIST has chosen the not so frightening date of May 22, 2015 to arrive in theaters.

While we're talking horror remakes, which do you think stands out as the best of the lot?

A remake was not needed, but I will see this.

As much as I want to scream out "blasphemy!", I got to admit this remake has me intrigued. I love the original Poltergeist, and I disgusted when news broke years ago of a remake. I've been highly critical of Hollywood taking classic horror movies and remaking them with duds, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street. However, I really like the casting chooses of Sam Rockwell, Jarred Harris, and Jane Adams. Also, I'm hoping that with Sam Raimi's horror expertise he help with reminding the crew to add

You know it's a studio horror film when the ponderous explanations come trotting out. The unknown is to horror what Samwise is to the Fellowship: constantly being overlooked even though its the most important thing in the story.

This seems like one of those modern remakes that full of unnecessary jump scares.
