AMC to hold a Mighty Marvel Movie Marathon culminating in The Avengers

So I hear tell a few of you are a bit excited about THE AVENGERS.  Which means my question is - are you excited enough to shell out $40 and approximately twelve hours to see Marvel's five past films as well as the film to which they've all been leading? Because that's the oppportunity AMC is offering to the more devout fans amongst you this coming May 3rd

On that day you can mosey on over to select AMC Theatres to catch IRON MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, IRON MAN 2, THOR (3D), CAPTAIN AMERICA (3D), and THE AVENGERS (3D) all in one shot.  $40 for the six movies comes out to about $6.66 per movie, so even if you've seen some (or all) of them in theatres already that actually still isn't bad at all.

As per the official press release: "Limited engagement tickets for both THE AVENGERS and THE ULTIMATE MARVEL MARATHON will go on sale this Sunday night at a select number of AMC Theatres. The times the tickets will go on sale are as follows: Eastern Standard Time - 12:01am Sunday night (3/11) / Monday morning (3/12) Pacific Standard Time - 9:01pm Sunday night (3/11) Here is a list of the select theatres where you can purchase tickets:

Boston Common 19 Boston, MA
Burbank 16 Burbank, CA
Downtown Disney 12 Anaheim, CA
Aventura 24 Aventura, FL
Empire 25 New York, NY
Garden State 16 Paramus, NJ
Downtown Disney 24 Lake Buena Vista, FL
Metreon 16 San Francisco, CA
Alderwood 16 Lynnwood, WA
Tysons Corner 16 McLean, VA

Tickets will go on sale for other AMC Theatres on March 16th. The expanded list will also be made available on March 16th."

Extra Tidbit: Have you ever participated in this sort of thing in the past (Harry Potter was another franchise to have such an event)?

I don't know...as much as I like this idea (a local Indie theater did this with the Lord Of The Rings extended versions a few years ago), I would imagine that by the time someone got to the end of the fifth movie, they would be pretty burnt out and therefore may not be able to enjoy The Avengers as much as if they were to go see the movie by itself.

NERDS ASSEMBLE!!!

That's kinda pretty awesome!!!
Hope we get that here in Canada too!

Oh, and @Freddyrich: Dude, they are not forcing you to pay that and see all of those movies you know. And you know you'll get that Ultimate Blu-ray collection too (I'd say around Christmas time), but then won't that be as much if not more of a cash grab? As I'm sure you, like most of us, already own all/most of the movies individually.

Can we say

CASH GRAB? Come-on Marvel/Disney, you're already going to get our money, why the need to dig further into our pockets? I'd rather have an Ultimate Blu-Ray Collection.

While this sounds all kinds of awesome, I'm actually think how this would kinds SUCK. That is like 12 straight hours sitting in a movie theater. By the time the Avengers comes on, it would be harder to enjoy it, having sat all day long seeing movies I've already seen waiting for the one I've been wanting to see. My back would be killing me and my legs would be atrophied. And then there's the high priced concessions, yeah I think I'll have a seven dollar hot dog for lunch and maybe some ten

This is like TOO much of a good thing.

I did the best picture showcase this year and saw 5 of the best pictures and my favorite was actually Midnight in Paris, the very last one they played. If you love movies it is pretty awesome.

Yeah!

When I was a kid, there was a Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back double feature to celebrate/showcase the upcoming release of Return of the Jedi. So, this Marvel thing seems cool. I'm a bit apprehensive with the switch from 2D to 3D during the showcase though. Hope they remember to change lenses between Ironman 2 & Thor. That would suck if the theaters didn't.

I owned all of them in blu-ray. I would be interested if they were showing it in IMAX.

Oh hell yeah Empire 25! I'd have to take two days off from work for this (Friday would be recovery)... I'll have to think about it.

Tidbit: The Ziegfeld in New York used to do triple features from time to time. On a Saturday in March of 2006 I saw the Indiana Jones trilogy. The prints were gorgeous.

Would love to do this, but I don't live near a AMC theater.

They should show the films from the earliest events to the latest. So Captain America, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, then Thor.

This would be fun! Not by me though.

TIDBIT: Yes, Star Wars one for when Return of the Jedi came out in 1983 and a dusk till dawn marathon of Friday the 13th films at the drive in.

Wow, Lynnwood, WA?

I did the AMC Oscar Best Picture noms two years in a row. It was awesome. It seems like the people that go to these things are there to WATCH MOVIES, not talk and use their cell phones. Plus between films people like to talk geeky movie stuff. I wish I was able to go to this. It would be awesome.

Damn

I really wish AMC would do this kind of thing at more of their theaters. The one I go to feels so detached because it never does anything special.

But I guess this is worth a trip to Downtown Disney. Lol

Crap. I moved out of U.S. years ago. Otherwise I'd be at Boston Common in a heart beat.
