APPALOOSA

Westerns have pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur in today's comic book dominated movie world but that hasn't stopped Ed Harris from trying to bring them back with APPALOOSA. Written and directed by Harris himself based on the novel of the same name by Robert B. Parker, in it, he stars with Viggo Mortensen as two lawmen hired to bring order to the titular town after a nefarious rancher in the form of Jeremy Irons has taken over. From the looks of the trailer, which you can click through to check out, he may not usher in a new era of westerns but he'll at least put in a respectable addition to the western library, like OPEN RANGE and 3:10 TO YUMA (the remake) before it. It opens October 3rd. Below you'll also find the poster.

Sonny Corleone:

3:10 to Yuma- yes
Jesse James- yes, bit was Sooo bad it should not even be considered as a film
No Country- not a western; just a movie set in Texas

Can't wait.

I've really been looking forward to this one for a long time. Big fan of Robert B Parker. I read this novel twice.

How are westerns dead when last year 3 of the best films were westerns (3:10 to Yuma, Jesse James, No Country)

Is it me or does Renee Zelwegger just annoy the hell out of anyone else? I can't think of a film where I could actually stand her. She always comes across as a complete pretencious, self-involved bitch!

Looks Cool

I've always enjoyed these new age western films. Even though westerns are dead (and they are dead), its always nice to see a period piece like this every few years.

Ed Harris to me always seems like he just can't get the role he deserves. The rest of the cast is great, Ill certainly be seeing this in theatres.
