Barry Levinson to direct indie sci-fi thriller Isopod

08.12.2010
It's a slow news evening/morning, so please bear with this very brief news item.

According to Production Weekly's Twitter feed, filmmaker Barry Levinson (SPHERE, WAG THE DOG, RAIN MAN) is planning on taking the helm of an indie sci-fi thriller entitled ISOPOD. Production is said to be beginning next month in both North and South Carolina, and that's pretty much all we know.

I did however Google Search "isopod" and, well, if you get easily creeped out by the sight of ENORMOUS F*CKING BUGS, then I suggest you Google "kelly brook boobs" or something instead.

So will Levinson's "sci-fi thriller" in fact be about killer bugs? Or is the title just a misnomer of sorts? I expect we'll get some info sooner than later what with production set to begin next month. But until then, feel free to speculate away!
Extra Tidbit: Speaking of bugs, William Friedkin's 2006 horror-thriller BUG is definitely worth a look.

Levinson hasn't directed a good film since Wag The Dog, and unfortunately seems to be one of those directors who has lost his touch. However, this could still be cool - anything with the words "indie" AND "sci-fi" is awesome in my book.

Sounds cool. Levinson is the man. Not to be disagreeable, but I actually thought Sphere was pretty decent. Bug, on the other hand, was absolutely terrible. Not even exaggerating, one of the worst, most unwatchable, movies I have ever seen. I am warning you not to see the movie Bug.

@schwarzgeršt, you're probably on the money there. This guy loves his dystopian views of the future though I'd say that giant undersea invertebrates are pretty damn dystopian.

Give the project to Friedkin instead

Levinson can direct drama but not much else. Sphere was fucking terrible
