Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff joins the lady version of The Expendables

Oct. 5, 2012by: Niki Stephens

Bears. Beets. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's Katee Sackhoff.

I know there are several fans out there of Ms. Sackhoff, otherwise known as Starbuck from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. If anyone deserves a spot in the lady EXPENDABLES, it's her.

Sackhoff will join Gina Carano in the film, which Adi Shankar will produce for 1984 Private Defense Contractors, who plan to fully finance the project. Dutch Southern was set a couple of months ago to write the project. This caught the attention of many female action stars who are now currently circling. Who are those lady stars? Sadly, we are in the dark on that detail as of this moment.

Shankar, who recently co-produced THE GREY, DREDD 3D, and KILLING THEM SOFTLY said this of casting Sackhoff, "If you spend five minutes with Katee it becomes blatantly obvious that she would pwn (sic) most male action stars."

Sackhoff was most recently seen in A&E's LONGMIRE, and will also have a role in Vin Diesel's next untitled Riddick film.

Is this necessary?

Maybe if they put the cast in a vat of jello...

Girl power! I hope there are lots of scenes showing how much stronger women are than men

Especially white men! Go get'em girls.
/sarcasm

This movie will be a deep untreatable stain on the careers of all involved. Think Barb Wire but somehow worse.

Pathetic. Ex special forces...support staff? Because SO women are restricted to paperwork and translating. Those are facts. So this will show them kicking (supply list) ass and typing names?

Gina Carano could kick your ass. And most men's.

WTF! You mean they weren't kidding about making this?!?

Like TheGreatWolf said the EX movies are essentially a tribute 80s macho-ness mostly watched by guys. As for an all ass-kicking female squad, the ol' [link] would have to be a must. Well, in my case anyway, because I'd be cringing throughout the movie because most female 'ass-kickers' of nowadays are too self aware that a sexy pose is like a must which is OK but gets it distracting after a while and you stop taking her combat skills seriously.

For example: Scarlet Johanson rocked as Black

For example: Scarlet Johanson rocked as Black Widow, right? Picture a (brutal) fight scene between her and, say, Cynthia Rothrock. Now picture Rothrock K.O'd from that fight.

Impossible? EXACTLY. Besides, Cynthia oozed sexiness and didn't need a pose to show it.

Your comment make a lot of sense except that the film doesn't star Scarlett Johansson, it stars Gina Carano. I don't mind seeing Johansson in the Avengers and Hathaway as Catwoman but this isn't that type of films.

That's why I called it an example because Cynthia Rothrock isn't in this either (or is she?) or maybe you know something I don't.

I know it's an example; my point was that I don't think that example applies here. Gina Carano is a mixed martial artist and it's a lot easier to picture her beat Rothrock in a fight than Scarlett. Like I said, it's not a "Scarlett" type of film. Not so far anyway.

Cool.

I'm looking forward to this. Rodriguez would be a great addition.

I can"t believe they are actually going forward with this. What a perversion of the original idea. The Expendables is supposed to be a tribute to 1980's action where women mostly weren't featured. And now they turning the idea upside down to deliver an all-chick Expendables.

I think you're taking the sales pitch a bit too litterally. The Expendables was a movie with a bunch of action stars, like this one will be but with women instead. Calling it the female version of The Expendables is perfectly acceptable in that sense.

She's a great tough chick, and I really like her voice acting work too (she was Sarah Essen in the Batman Year One animated flick). I'm so glad this seems to be going ahead and can't wait for the Expenda-gals film to hit screens! Hmm, how about getting Sackhoff's Battlestar Galactica peer Grace Park onboard as well? I can't wait to find out who the veteran female action stars drafted into the project will be (Sigourney Weaver! Linda Hamilton! Cynthia Rothrock! Michelle Yeoh!), 'cos that's who

They need some bigger names otherwise no one will buy into the whole female expendables thing.

Remember, Jet Li & Statham were the first names attached to Stallone's Expendables. It wasn't until Dolph joined the cast that casting possibilities took on a life of their own.

Great start casting for this one, but lets go big. Demi Moore, Lucy Lawless, Pam Grier, Zhang Ziyi, Uma Thurman, Kate Beckinsale!
