Brody’s Cadillac

Adrien Brody and Jeffrey Wright are set to star in Sony BMG’s CADILLAC RECORDS. Quite frankly, this thing must have a script that is absolutely bananas, since the story sounds boring as hell. I’m talking your girlfriend dragging you over to a Maybelline counter boring. Here’s the skinny: Brody will play famed blues/R&B record exec Leonard Chess, and Wright will be Muddy Waters. Joining them in the cast are Columbus Short, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Cedric the Entertainer and Tammy Blanchard. Writer-director Darnell Martin’s film explores Chicago in the 1950s, charting the colorful lives of American musical legends like Waters, Chess, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and Elvis Presley. It will lense in New Jersey and Mississippi. Maybe this is just boring to me since Elvis is the only one of those dudes (or chicks?) that I’ve ever even heard of. Still, I’m torn – on the one hand, I like Wright (THE INVASION – better than the numbers would imply), and I think Brody’s work in THE THIN RED LINE (what little of it we actually saw) is some of the greatest acting I’ve ever seen. But on the other, Cedric the Entertainer and a movie about a bunch of guys I don’t know.
