Bryan Singer bringing X-Men: Apocalypse to Comic-Con, plus Rogue Cut of DOFP

06.30.2015

Soon after it was revealed that Anna Paquin's role as Rogue had been cut from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST we were promised that a "Rogue cut" of the film would arrive on Blu-ray with the character's small arc restored. The Rogue Cut of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand on July 14, 2015, but Bryan Singer will be giving some of you the chance to see it a few days earlier as the Rogue Cut will screen at the Gaslamp Reading Cinema at 8:00pm on July 11th.

In addition to the Rogue Cut screening, Singer also teased that he may be bringing "some stuff" from X-MEN: APOCALYPSE to Hall H on July 11th. As to what he means by that, we will have to wait and see, but the last time Bryan Singer brought "some stuff" to Comic-Con it was the first footage from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Excited yet? So am I.

The Rogue Cut of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is said to be seventeen minutes longer than the theatrical cut and, while I never really missed Anna Paquin's character, I'm curious to see what differences Rogue's inclusion brings. My choice to hold off on purchasing the Blu-ray of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (having no money to spend on Blu-ray's is a choice right?) looks like it has paid off as the Rogue Cut Blu-ray will include both versions of the film.

Simon Kinberg on the cut scenes and Rogue:

It’s a big chunk, a substantial part of the movie. We want to give (fans) the fullest picture of the film — behind the camera, and in front of it...Every movie has scenes that are cut out, but not every movie has scenes cut out with such a beloved character. The Rogue subplot was originally there because I wanted a mission for the older Charles and Eric to do, something like Unforgiven – two last gunslingers, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman – that kind of a mission for them. I just loved the idea of that. Nothing in the story necessitated that, but just for a lark, I thought it would be a cool thing to see, because we may never see it again.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 27, 2016.
