Carrey Loves Ewan

Dec. 18, 2007by: Mike Sampson

Jim Carrey has found the love interest for his next film and it's probably not who you'd expect. Ewan McGregor has signed on to play the object of Carrey's affection in the upcoming comedy I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS. In the film Carrey will star as a conman sentenced to prison in Texas. There he meets his cellmate, Phillip Morris, who he falls in love with. Morris is released and Carrey spends the rest of his days orchestrating ways to get out of jail to be with him. MORRIS will mark the directorial debut of writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa who previously wrote BAD SANTA. They wrote the script based on the real life story of Steven Russell. Carrey is currently filming YES MAN with Zooey Deschanel and will then begin work on A CHRISTMAS CAROL, the mocap animated film for Robert Zemeckis. A spring start is scheduled for MORRIS with Luc Besson's EuropaCorp fully financing the film. Carrey can be heard in March in the Fox animated film HORTON HEARS A WHO.

Extra Tidbit: The Discovery Channel previously aired a special on the exploits of Russell.

Sounds interesting

Ewan's been on the downlow as of late, hasn't he?

I mean, if it plays out as a satirical dramedy, it might work. I mean, Ewan is picky enough (post Star Wars) so this shouldn't be too bad..right?

Until further details completely destroy whatever interest I have, I'll have to say this is the sort of thing I'd be interested in just because of the possibilitites. A bit surprised Luc Besson is financing it, though, because it doesn't sound action-packed or anything to do with France.

It sounds interesting enough... I love both Ewan and Carrey as actors, and I thought Bad Santa was fantastic. This could turn into something worth watching.

We'll see...

They're takinga big risk too. But so was Brokeback so... maybe it'll work.

So....not a comedy?

Seriously, considering it's Carrey and considering the subject matter could range from deeply romantic to stupidly comedic (even if based on a real life story), how about some background?
