Jesus. This list went from a handful of actors, to two, back to a handful in a matter of a freakin' week! Internet, you so crazy!

Earlier yesterday, we reported that Ryan Phillippe was in the running to don the red, white, and blue. And now, according to Mike Fleming at Deadline, Channing Tatum (DEAR JOHN, G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA) is the latest to make the ever-growing list of Cap contenders.

Breaking News, guys: JoBlo, Mike Sampson, Paul Tassi, Dave Davis, myself, and even Niki Stephens are also contenders for the role. Niki's ready to do what it takes and Mike's already bulked up by 20 pounds. Me? I'm decent-looking enough, but only 5' 7" and Hispanic. If they were casting for Captain South America, I'd be a shoe-in.

And it ain't no fun if the ladies can't have none. Also being reported are the three new contenders for the leading fem role of "Peggy Carter", Cap's girlfriend during WWII. They are Keira Knightley (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN), Alice Eve (SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE), and Emily Blunt (THE WOLFMAN).

I love Knightley, but I just don't see her in this role. Eve's got that certain something that lends itself to the era of the film (plus she's relatively unknown and therefore cheap). And Blunt, well, the pic below's giving me boners, so I'll take her (plus she was already in Joe Johnston's THE WOLFMAN, like Hugo Weaving).

What do you guys make of all these names?

Robert Downey Jr. for Captain America. Downey could play Captain AND Iron Man. He would be wearing a mask anyway and all he would have to do is just dye his hair blond. Krasinski all the way for me
I dont really think Tatum and Philippe are right for this role. They may fit the mold of handsome , square-jawed, and ripped dudes but I think Krasinski would be the best casting for a role with charisma and depth, like RDj in Iron Man. Philippe can act ill give him that, but still I dont think he would be right for the character of Capt.Am.

Unless the director can get whatever Dito Montiel got out of him for "Guide to Recognizing Your Saints", this is the worst casting idea yet.

Out of all the actors they are considering, I still think John Krasinski is the best choice for Captain America. The Female lead should be Emily Blunt. They would have good chemistry due to the fact that they are engaged. If Marvel were smart they would cast Krasinski and Blunt for the leads.

I gotta disagree with a lot of people, but I think Tatum is the first person mentioned that made sence to me. He has the general look, and action experience. Unfortuatly, being a good actor is secondary in a superhero movie, but that bods well for him. And Eve would be a great choice for the female lead.

Tatum has a niche, however that remains to be seen outside of eye candy for teenage girls who listen to gaga.

krasinski does well as a older era american, (leatherheads) it would be a STRETCH to put on the captains boots.

I admit someone like phillipe would be cool to see do well. i.e. Ledgers return in D.K.

Channing Tatum is one the worst actors I've ever seen. His "performance" is GI Joe was unbelievably laughable especially towards the end with him yelling and trying to show emotion. I'm already not enthused about Johnston directing, if Tatum is cast Cap will officially be going down the road of Daredevil and Ghost Rider. I'm out.

I'm not on the Tatum Hate Train like a lot of others seem to be. I don't mind him as an actor at all. Sure, he can improve, but I don't have any problem with him. That being said, I don't think he should play yet ANOTHER military guy.

In other words he is a bad actor. I get wanting his image for Captain America, but come on, at least get someone will the acting capability to match. The only idea worse than this wold be Arnold...

I would not watch a Captain America with Channing Tatum. I don't think you could even get Downey Jr. and Norton on board for the Avengers if the leader of the Avengers is some retard who can't act. Someone mentioned Matt Damon, who I think would be awesome for the role and has the presence to be a leader.

Tatum doesn't have a manly enough face to be Captain America. Glad they are finally looking at people with the right body type though.

Channing tatum is such a terrible actor... i really hope he begins to fade into obscurity soon, and that will start with him NOT getting this role!

Channing Tatum? for real? he may have the look but other than that i don't get a Captain America vibe at all from him. Krasinski is looking better all the time but i'm still pulling for Garrett Hedlund.

Krasinski is my pick so far, but is it just me or have I not really seen any pics for Cap that everyone's like "YES CAST HIM!!" these are all kinda mediocre pics. NO Tatum though. But my pics are Blunt and Krasinski.

You gotta figure with the now growing list of potential picks, this guy was inevitable. Especially after they added a bigger-name actor like Ryan Phillippe, I mean, who's more American than Channing Tatum? Don't answer that, I'm just making a point the man is like a young Kevin Costner, charming, but not all that versatile right now. Is that bad for Cap? I don't really know, but I'd like to...

Tatum was good in "Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," and as "Pretty Boy" Floyd, but that's all I seen him in and otherwise people don't seem to like him. And I think Cap oughta be more or less likable.

As for the female lead, Emily Blunt hands down. Then Knightley, then Eve. Blunt is just the better actress in my opinion.

I think Channing Tatum would make a good Captain America if he were to get the role. He gets a bad rep in my opinion, but the guy can act. I dont understand something though, I thought they were trying to cast unknowns for the role? Tatum isnt really unknown. I mean my dream pick would be Jensen Ackles for Captain America, who IS unknown.

How THE HELL can you say he can act? Have you actually seen his movies? Watch G.I. Joe and listen to his line delivery and emotion, watch She's the Man, watch Fighting, he has NO charisma. I can't believe you just said he can act. Are you really a movie buff?

Granted, he's a far more obvious choice than John Krasinski, but he's a little TOO obvious...he's Mr. Action, but all squints and scowls - practically puts Christian Bale to shame.



No, I think Garrett Hedlund is still the best choice. A range of emotions, but capable of being tough, and funny too.

All three actresses are British. Is Peggy Carter also British? Does Captain America meet her first when he encounters an Invaders in England?

This is my vote. Peggy should be Emily Blunt. Emily did rather well in The Wolfman. Eve lacks a record to really consider. And, Knightley has done action (Pirates, Domino, King Arthur) flicks. But, her characters never seem simultaneously strong...

Still the best name seriously floated about is Chris Evans. But he pulled off "smart ass" so well in FF (as appropriate to the role), that I'm worried he can't do "stoic leader" that Cap requires.



Matt Damon still strikes me as the truly best choice for his (a) looks (b) ability to act like a leader (c) go toe to toe with RDJ and Ed Norton when Avengers hits.

Personally the girl friend role doesnt really matter, so give it to anyone. When you think about it how much would she actually be in it b4 hes frozen and than fast forward to the future where shed be an old lady where she MIGHT appear in a future movie
