Check out some cool new images from the set of Rian Johnson's time-travel thriller Looper

Feb. 8, 2011by:

Upstart director Rian Johnson is two for two so far in my book, having knocked it out of the park with his 2005 feature debut BRICK, and then later in 2008 with the under-appreciated THE BROTHERS BLOOM. So like many of you, I eagerly await his next film, the sci-fi time-travel thriller LOOPER.

To tide us over till its 2012 release, a bunch of cool new on-set stills have appeared over at LOOPER's Tumblr (via the film's star Joseph Gordon-Levitt). They're a little artsy, a little stark, and all very mysterious. Enough to whet the appetite and spur our imaginations on just what the f*ck this trippy-sounding flick might end up showing us.

LOOPER stars JGL, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, and Paul Dano, as well as the recently cast Noah Segan, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo, and Xu Qing.

Synopsis: A present-day killer works for the mob of the future. He, along with other so-called "Loopers", dispose of people sent from the future to eliminate evidence of a crime. When he recognizes one victim as his future self, he hesitates, letting the man escape.

Extra Tidbit: Favorite time-travel film (that's not BACK TO THE FUTURE - let's shake it up a bit)?

Brick was incredible, so I have high hopes for this.

Tidbit: Timecop, just to remind people it exists and make them facepalm.

Pics look great

Tidbit -- Terminator Series, 12 Monkeys, a little like for the FAQ about Time Travelling, and yeah Hot Tub Time Machine.

I will also include the first 8 episodes of LOST's Season 5 (which were focused around time travel) - just because its LOST.

I'm surprised nobody has voted for Los Cronocrmenes, better known as Timecrimes. It really is one of the most meticulously crafted, entertaining Time Traveling films in the past decade no question. I urge the world to see it before the inevitable remake hits

Triangle (2009) was almost like a remake.

But yeah, I really enjoyed Timecrimes also. A very good complicated time traveling flick. I was confused for a bit.

Tidbit: 12 Monkeys (which this movie seems like it's been influenced by)

12 Monkeys became one of my favorite movies back in the 90's because it shared a certain concept in the theory of time travel as I did. If someone travels back in time and "alters" history, they've really changed nothing because what they have done has always been apart of history. (Which is part of the synopsis of 12 Monkeys.) There is no 'A' or 'B' alternate history, there is only one. Any time traveler going back in

Any time traveler going back in time, has always been a part of that history. He can not create a new history because it has already happen. Example, in 12 Monkeys young Cole sees a time traveler die in an airport. Cole grows up to become a time traveler in which he takes his place in young Cole's history, as the time traveler that dies at that airport. Another example is Cole traveling too far back and is photograph in WWI. Years later Kathryn discovers the photo and uses it in her research. Cole didn't create a new history, but was merely always a part of it.

And does anyone remember when 12 Monkeys had a low score on IMDB?

Two Gilliams. "Time Bandits" for fun and "Twelve Monkeys", the most depressing time travel movie ever!

Tidbit

Bill & Ted, 12 Monkeys, Army of Darkness, Terminator, Planet of the Apes. You just picked my favorite genre after zombies, I'm not picking just one movie.
