Check out the colorful Comic-Con posters for The Expendables 3!

07.21.2014

We are still a few weeks away from the release of the testosterone-fuelled EXPENDABLES 3 and what better way to turn on the hype machine than a poster release? These characters posters for the movie are drastically different from anything I’ve seen this year in terms of posters; it’s as if they’re teasing a massive paintball match that takes place in the movie. Eat your heart out Andy Warhol. The art posters wil be heading to San Diego Comic-Con this week.

Here’s the synopsis in case you missed it or didn’t believe there as one:

The mercenary group, the Expendables, led by Barney Ross, come face to face with the team's co-founder Conrad Stonebanks. Ross was forced to kill Stonebanks after he became a ruthless arms trader, but Stonebanks survived and has now made it his mission to destroy the Expendables. Ross resorts to recruiting a new and younger generation of Expendables to help the team overcome his old adversary.

If you missed it, you should also check out last week’s Vanity Fair shoot we shared, it’s pretty awesome.

The cast includes Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Jet Li and Arnold Schwarzenegger, now joined by Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer, Harrison Ford, Ronda Rousey, Kellan Lutz, Antonio Banderas and Robert Davi.

All that muscle hits theaters on August 15 2014.

movie looks great

but this is one of the weirdest marketing campaigns I've seen, at least in terms of images, from that last classy photo shoot thing to the initial set of posters, some of which looked cool but were quite odd in that they seemed like magazine shots of the actors playing dress up rather than them being 'in the zone' and in character and all, just kind of goofing off (most of them at least)... and now this. Which is... I don't know, it either says 'paintball fight' to me or 'glow in the dark night

I'm beyond stoked for this! It looks like it could be the best one yet. I find the negative people around here hilarious. They were probably the whiny teens who stopped listening to bands whenever they would release an album that didn't have a parental advisory sticker on it. A rating doesn't make the movie. Besides, maybe if people actually went and supported R-rated movies and didn't skip out on them when they are in theaters and they didn't illegally download them, maybe we would see more of

Certainly PG-13

The people who marketed Twilight must be behind this. It can explain the shot posters and the Vanity Fair shoot.

Remember when action movies were made for badasses and not teenagers?

These posters remind me of when you were a kid, and you went to buy your favourite toy that was based on a cartoon, but they only had the silly 2nd/3rd series 'deluxe' editions that had popping out eye or some other daft gimmick and were wearing a strange mix of colours that you'd never see in the cartoon itself.

Might as well just make toys too

I was so hyped up for this last year, up until they announced the PG-13 rating and saw the trailer. These posters look like some 10 year olds did a photoshop project.

I guess they switched to paint balls to keep it pg-13. I hope Mel takes them all down.

I'm rooting for Mel Gibson to be the last one standing at the end of this film.
