Chris Pine and director Craig Gillespie may board The Finest Hours

So SHADOW RECRUIT didn’t seem to do so well for Chris Pine? I thought he would make an excellent Jack Ryan, but the audiences just weren’t there for it. I thought it was entertaining enough. Sure, Pine’s no Harrison Ford, but the guy still has all the necessary tools to take on the character.

No matter, Pine has several anticipated projects to move along with like INTO THE WOODS, HORRIBLE BOSSES 2, and Z IS FOR ZACHARIAH. It also looks like Pine is circling the Disney’s period Coast Guard drama THE FINEST HOURS. Craig Gillespie, who recently directed MILLION DOLLAR ARM starring Jon Hamm is up for the helming job.

The true story set in 1952 follows ”a Noreaster hit the New England coast, and two oil tankers were caught in the middle. The ships split in two, casting its crews into the ferocious seas, and it was up to the valiant effort of the coast guard to attempt a rescue.”Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (THE FIGHTER) adapted the story from the non-fiction book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias.

Robert Schwentke was once attached to direct the project but scripting took too long.
