C’mon Hollywood #153

… keep it together Owen!
by Sturdy

I always assume that any time I read gossip or news about celebrities that it’s probably about 80% fabricated in order to sell papers or increase ratings. For all we know, Lindsay Lohan is a virgin and Tom Cruise is Jewish. But whenever I hear about an actor or actress involved in a near-death experience due to drugs or drinking, it bothers me. When Owen Wilson was going through his shit, I was worried for the guy. Now he has a new movie opening this weekend and is currently filming a likely hit in MARLEY AND ME and I’m glad he’s still on top. But I want Owen to take care of himself so he can continue to find success in the movies.

I’m a big fan of Owen Wilson and I want him to make a lot more movies. Everything he’s done with Wes Anderson is gold in my book. In fact DARJEELING LIMITED was one of my favorite movies of last year and Owen was a huge reason why. He’s a cool guy and even in his worst films (BIG BOUNCE), he’s still a likeable guy that’s fun to watch. I could easily see Owen making the transition to serious drama at some point and hitting it out of the park. He’s got talent and I think it’s only a matter of time before he gets that starring role in a dramatic film.

One of my favorite films of ’07.

Before news broke of his suicide, I always thought of Owen as a cool party guy that basically tapped whatever Hollywood ass he wanted. For those of us that don’t get to sleep with Playboy bunnies on a regular basis, he pretty much lived the dream life. Which is why it was surprising to most of us that he would attempt to end his life. He no doubt had other shit that impacted his life, but I think the image that he has means nothing to his fans. Personally, I’ll like the guy equally if he spends his weekends reading poetry or snorting coke off hooker’s asses. At this stage in his career, he’s already made it. He doesn’t have to live the Hollywood life if he doesn’t want to.

Not one of his better films.

I don’t know how long it takes to get over trying to commit suicide. Thankfully, suicide really hasn’t been a part of my life or anyone around me. It was reported that Owen supposedly attempted suicide and my fear is that he jumped back in the spotlight a little too quickly. I love his films and I’m excited about seeing him again, but it’s more important that he get over whatever he had going on and get better. If fame, or the pressure of fame played a part in his situation, it’s not going to get better starring in a popular book adaptation with Jennifer Aniston.

Owen with his new bitch.

Heath Ledger’s death was devastating for some fans and no one wants to go through that again. Owen seems to have a lot of friends in the business and millions of fans. So c’mon Owen, take your time getting back into the swing of things and take care of yourself. Your fans will still be there when you come back. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that we’d rather go without you for a year if that meant keeping you around for the next 40 years or so.
