Cool Videos: Robocop has a message for Detroit

02.28.2011

So despite our idiot mayor shooting down the Robocop statue idea, enough funds have been raised to build the thing privately in Detroit, and the plan is going ahead as between this and a Super Bowl commercial from Eminem, things are looking up for our city. Yes, we have low standards.

Well one person we haven’t heard from about the whole statue issue is Robocop himself, Peter Weller. Funny or Die tracked him down, put him in front of a camera and wrote him some thoughts he has on the issue, and it’s nice to see he’s in full support.

Yes, Detroit is awful in almost every way, but we don’t have much to get excited about, and as retarded as a Robocop statue may seem, anything that gets our citizens the least bit pumped is worth at least looking into.

Extra Tidbit: Yes, I technically live in Ann Arbor, not Detroit. Nobody lives in Detroit.

Lol Weller just earned a huge amount of respect from me! That was hilarious, self depreciating humour that few actors could pull off :)

Fuck yeah! I am so in love with Weller it's not even funny. Also, Detroit should start building fucking actual "robo-cops" if they wanna jump-start their economy.

Go Peter Weller!! The man is still awesome after all these years. I got goosebump when I saw him rolling the gun like he did in Robocop. Like his new Robocop helmet though, haha.

I love it.. he was great in Dexter.

I find it hilarious that he looked this old 20 years ago.

He's still got it!

I'm surprised how young he still looks. They should honestly have him play Robocop again in the "remake". But instead of a direct remake, tie it in with the old movies. When the film starts have Robocop offline and decomissioned for several years now. But of course the city once again needs him to save them. Now Robo has to adapt to the changed world. It would be a good way of rebooting the franchise without pissing on the orginals.

Heh

This is interesting, so many people trying to save the failed city and re-make it as a new "motor city". If anyone can do it, It is Robocop.
