Daniel Craig offers up his thoughts on who should play James Bond next

10.07.2015

We haven't even seen SPECTRE yet, and Daniel Craig still is contractually lined up to do one more 007 film, but in the run up to the 24th James Bond movie, all anyone wants to speculate on is who could possibly play the super-spy next.

Idris Elba? Tom Hardy? Dan Stevens? Someone else?

In a recent interview with Time Out London, Craig himself was asked who he thought would be a sound replacement for him when his time as Bond was up, and he easily offered up the most definitive answer anyone could at this point in the process.

Look, I don’t give a f*ck. Good luck to them! All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better. Make it better, that’s all.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. How can you fault honesty like that?

Craig was a little more generous with advice though for whoeever might land the prestigious role, delivering some sharp words about the enormity of the job.

You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. So don’t be shit…Go for it. Embrace it. Some clichéd line like that. But no, just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond.

Those are the words of a man who is clearly exhausted and would love the slightest break from James Bond, if even just for five minutes. Craig has put in his work in rejuvenating the franchise, so let's do him a solid. Five minutes... Ready... set... relax...

SPECTRE brings Daniel Craig back to theaters as James Bond on November 6.

Quantum of Solace wasn't crap. It was just underwhelming. I thought Skyfall was a bit overrated. The whole idea of a villain wanting to kill M was done in The World is Not Enough.

The funny thing is, as i recall, the only time he's seemed disenfranchised with playing Bond was around the time of Quantum Solace. Since QS was crap when compared to Casino Royal and then Skyfall i can imagine why he may have felt like that. Clearly though he's back into it and if Specter is as good as Skyfall or even Casino Royal then i'm sure he's happy to do it. I bet it is quite draining though especially when you're still trying to top that opening chase in Casino.

I can only imagine how many times he's asked this question. He's currently rocking the Bond role, leave him be and let's hope for great films down the road.

More to the point, what's Daniel Craig going to do once he's finished with James Bond?
Given his attitude in interviews about Bond I'd say he's a shoe-in for the voice of Grumpy Cat if he wants the role. He's been method on the character for years.

i'd like to see a one shot of what it's like for an older, but still suave bond to come back to the game one more time. if they could drag sean connery out of his cave it would be the greatest shit ever! But timothy dalton would also do nicely. He's awesome nowadays.

I hope he stays Bond for as long as he can. He is perfect in the role and as a fan, am in no rush for him to vacant the role anytime soon.

I agree with anomaly7 below. I don't think Craig dislikes being James Bond either. But the role is big and time consuming and very demanding, psychologically and physically. I'm guessing he's just tired of filming. He probably needs a time off to recharge. But I'd love to see Dan Stevens as James Bond.

Just leave the man alone!

I really like Craig as James Bond, and I share his thoughts the next BOND must give his 100% to the character, but it is understandable that he feel bothered by the same questions over and over, besides SPECTRE hasn't even been released and they ask him for his replacement, that feels a little bit harsh

I don't really think Craig dislikes being Bond like the author implies. I do think that Craig dislikes all the promotional and press work it requires, based on other interviews he's given. Can't say I blame him, I'm sure it sucks being asked about your replacement when you've got another film coming out soon, and possibly 1 or 2 after that. I'll worry about the casting the next Bond when Craig moves on, which I hope isn't any time soon.

Honestly I've been mostly bored with the Craig incarnation of Bond. The all seem like straight to DVD generic action flicks to me.

But I honestly can't think of anyone out there I'd want to see as Bond right now, and I'm tired of Hardy and Elba being mentioned for everything under the Sun.

How about bringing Bronson back once for his own Never Say Never Again?
