Dave Franco discusses auditioning for Han Solo

04.18.2016

As you can imagine, every talented young male in Hollywood is being tested to play the young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's spin-off STAR WARS flick. The latest rumor suggests Alden Ehrenreich may be the frontrunner, but Dave Franco was also one of the many who were given a shot. MTV recently had the chance to speak with Franco about the situation and it looks as though he's in the dark as much as the rest of us. While Franco is not alone in voicing his opinion on the audition (Miles Teller also spoke out), you can read what the former had to say below!

Dave Franco regarding his Han Solo audition:

Everyone’s coming up and being like, ‘Dude, what’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know. You know as much as me.’ I don’t want to underplay it, like, I’m very flattered to have been or to be whatever, wherever they are in the conversation, but, like, it is what it is.

If he tried to follow in Harrison Ford's mannerisms:

I’m not good with impressions. I think that’s the reason it’s so hard to cast this role, too. It’s like, do they want to like perfectly embody who Harrison Ford is, or do they want to go a completely different route? Do they want someone to look really similar him? So, I don’t know, I think they’re struggling with that, maybe.

Franco provides a good argument on whether or not Disney should seek out someone who acts like Ford versus someone who brings something new to the character. I think most of us would prefer the latter, and that the directors hire someone who is charismatic, a great actor, and brings their own version of Han Solo to life. There's only one Harrison Ford, so there's no point in trying to recreate that. Here's hoping Disney knows!

The UNTITLED HAN SOLO FILM is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15, 2018.

Sooo I'm guessing he didn't get the part and he was kinda okay with that, or he did get the part but he refused to shave his eyebrows and turned it down. I dunno. You know as much as me.

What is Dave Franco even talking about?

"Everyoneís coming up and being like, ĎDude, whatís going on?í And Iím like, ĎI donít know. You know as much as
me.í I donít want to underplay it, like, Iím very flattered to have been or to be whatever, wherever they are in the conversation, but, like, it is what it is."What is he even talking about?"
I'm guessing speaking basic English is a minimum standard for playing Han Solo. Btw who is Dave Franco?

I've never really wanted a Han Solo origin story...

Im totally fine having the character just be the way he is without an explanation. The Boba-Fett movie make more sense as he was barely developed in the cinematic universe and there's a cool story to tell that wont risk screwing with continuity.

Tbh I've never been sold on this idea of a young Han Solo movie. I prefer the way they are going with Episode 7,8,9 and Rogue One. Handing over the reins to a new cast and moving on from the old cast. However, saying that, I now want to see how Han met Chewie and how he got the Falcon from Lando. I am so conflicted!

Right? This will either make or break whoever gets the role.

My Choice

I think Nick Robinson, from Kings of Summer, should be considered for the role. He's young enough right now, he's an up and coming star, and he has the look of a young Han.
