Wednesday had some pretty good late-night viewing for movie fans -- not only did Joaquin Phoenix appear on David Letterman to come clean about his I'M STILL HERE antics, but happy horror maestro Guillermo del Toro sat down at the table with Stephen Colbert.

The filmmaker's appearance on "The Colbert Report" was largely to promote his writer half -- del Toro just released his second vampire book "The Fall", the follow-up to "The Strain" with co-writer Chuck Hogan. While the interview was all too brief, he did get a chance to talk a bit about his favorite subject: monsters.

Extra Tidbit: Nice to see Colbert occasionally put the faux-punditry aside and run his geek flag up the pole.

.

My jaw dropped when I saw he was going to be on. It was surprising yet appropriate to see ol' Del Toro as a guest on the show.

Colbert should have a cameo in del toro's next film. That would surely be a good laugh.

Great Interview - nice tidbit

Guillermo del Toro knows his shit! I can only begin to imagine the horrors that man has cooked up inside his head over the years. All of the twisted things we'll never see. I'd love to take a guided tour of that brain!

Guillermo and Colbert clashed?!

I can't believe that much awesome was in the same room together, let alone in the same frame. If you listen carefully, I believe you can hear angels singing during the interview.

Oh, and I have The Fall sitting on my shelf right now. Will read soon, although I hope Ron Pearlman makes another Audiobook for this one so I can enjoy it on the road like I did with The Strain.
