The Black List is an annual Hollywood "insider" collection of the best unproduced scripts in town, and last year's favorite was Christopher Weekes' whimsical Jim Henson biography THE MUPPET MAN.

The guy who brought so many famous felt creations to life will now get his story told. Disney and the Henson Company have reportedly come to terms and agreed to make the film, and are pursuing commercial and music vid director Michael Gracey (who did that ubiquitous rollerskating baby spot) to show how the late puppet master made his magic.

Disney is already pushing forward on a new adventure for the fabric characters called THE GREATEST MUPPET MOVIE OF ALL TIME, from FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL collaborators Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller. "Flight of the Conchords" co-creator James Bobin is directing.

Robin Williams as Jim Henson
There's only one guy I see immediately having the acting range to portray comedy & drama and the diversity of the Muppet Cast and that is Robin Williams. I love the man. This could be the role of a lifetime for him and he knows how to make us laugh, cry, and care. Loved him in "Good Will Hunting" and "Awakenings" and we all know he can do the Muppet Cast.

Disney is probably pushing this so they can have an excuse to overhaul the muppet 3d film at hollywood studios. It sounds like fodder for everything from a romantic comedy with love between puppeteers to a comedy similar to harvey with Mr. Henson claiming his muppets are alive.

Edward Norton or Jason Lee look the closest to Henson IMO
The question is can they do his voice and all his characters convincingly. It'd be awesome if they could get the other Muppet puppeteers in this biopic but probably would be best to just do a documentary.

I would have great pride in watching a film about Jim Henson. I really hope this project is actually good. I'm very interested in who they cast. I feel it'll be an unknown though.

OH YES!
I read the script and it really is remarkable. If they keep to it completely, then this film will have us all in tears...

This sounds awesome. I love the muppets! With this and the Segel movie in the works, it's bound to be a resurgence in the Muppets popularity.

Henson was my hero when I was a kid, so I'm definitely up for watching this. My favorite muppet was always Kermit.

Ugh! Roller Baby Fail
OMG. This thing tops the blacklist and they get THAT guy to direct it? That's the worst idea I've ever heard. Jim Henson deserves better than a guy famous for viral videos!! EPIC FAIL!

If it's a rumor or unverified news, it gets a question mark. That shouldn't be a mystifying concept.

I've been doing this since before YouTube even existed, but thanks for your "advice". You do seem to have a disturbing aggression toward punctuation, though. Seek help?

Enough with the question marks at the end of all your article titles. That goes for all of the JoBlo writers. Did you forget everything you learned in Journalism 101 or did you just watch a How To Blog video on YouTube?

Harsh, I know, but fuck your question marks. You're all better than this.

They were collected into one big list and mailed around, and it quickly got sent around the whole town. Now it's an annual thing. It's not official or anything, just a list of studio and production company people's most-liked scripts that haven't been sold or gone into production. It's kind of a way for people who read a lot of scripts to talk about the ones that made an impression (out of the 10,000 or so new scripts hitting Hollywood every year). A lot of the Black List ones end up getting made (like JUNO and COP OUT/A COUPLE OF DICKS).

Excuse my ignorance, but could someone explain the concept of this black list to me. Who comes up with the list, and how do they determine what is good if even some scripts that are getting produced turn out to be crap? Are they just scripts that seem good and have been pushed to a few studios with no luck selling the script?

I've loved Henson's work ever since I saw Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal but my interest in a biopic will largely depend on who they cast as Henson.
