Exclusive Cool Video: Top 10 Die Hard Rip-Offs!

04.10.2015

The old saying goes that there are no new stories but rather just ways to tell old ones in new ways. A perfect example is DIE HARD. When the original action film was released, it was a version of movies seen before but done in a way that set it apart from other films like it. Since then, countless movies have been released that set themselves up as DIE HARD on something.

PAUL BLART: MALL COP was the shopping plaza version of DIE HARD and now the sequel looks to take things to the next level. But, it begs the question as to which DIE HARD variations are the best. With that in mind, here is our ranking of the ten best that either pay homage to the John McTiernan classic or keep the spirit of Bruce Willis' movie alive. If we missed one you think should have made the cut, add it to the talk backs below.

PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2 opens on April 17th.

The Die Hard formula works well, considering I am a fan of everyone of those films.

Die Hard was just a rewritten sequel to Commando, so Die Hard is just "Commando in a Building".

Well...

This video has an interesting premise, but it's painfully clear the creator has never seen Die Hard and/or atleast half the movies on this list. Saying that Speed is a rip off of Die Hard is like saying that Twilight is a ripoff of Dracula.

Olympus Has Fallen!!!!!!

Can't believe you guys left that one out!
Also not quite Die Hard but I would have added Executive Decision.

And I would take out from that list Toy Soldiers and Air Force One, never understood what people saw in the latter.

Oh yeah! I forgot all about Executive Decision. Now that's one hell of an edge-of-your-seat action thriller.

I guess they could put Olympus Has Fallen in the Top 10 President has been taken movies and is then part of the fight back. Whilst not as good...I did enjoy Whitehouse Down :o)

God I'd forgotten all about Toy Soldiers! They were all fun movies. Admittedly, I'm very far from sophisticated when it comes to providing a critique of movies but I always loved that bus jump scene in Speed...still remember the tension I felt at the time - Speed being the first movie I saw at the cinema, then rented on VHS...and then bought the VHS - happy memories!
