Confirmed: Spoilery details on Jurassic World; the park, the dino's, & more!

05.30.2014

Confirmed: Director Colin Trevorrow gave an exclusive interview to Slashfilm and confirmed our below scoop, while going into more detail about the film. While the reaction to the information was mixed, it was no less accurate. We take great care in reporting any and all scoops, investigating them with scrutiny before putting the information out, which has given us a proven and accurate track record.

Original story follows:

All right, before we go any further, I'll toss in the obligatory SPOILERS for those that didn't read the headline. We will not be responsible for ruining your JURASSIC WORLD experience, so consider yourself warned. That said, these little tidbits don't really "ruin" anything at all, rather serve as little appetizers to the bigger picture of the film and, much like last week's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON scoop, should merely satiate you for a bit until more news comes trickling in for the revamped franchise.

What we have today is more of an elaboration on our original scoop (which you can always take as rumor, hearsay, etc.) that spelled out the concept for JURASSIC WORLD, as well as an examination of the "big bad" dino of the film, a few more details about the inner workings of the park itself, and how it ultimately goes from "Ooo's and Ah's" to "Running and screaming." I've rambled enough. Let's get to details, shall we?

THE PARK

Building on our original scoop: JURASSIC WORLD will be a real running theme park, complete with a monorail (as teased in recent concept art above), shops, rides, and shows. It's the most popular theme park and a family destination. To get there you have to take a high speed shuttle boat from Florida. Inside the park there are a multitude of activities, including a Dino petting zoo and a Hologram info center where you can learn about the methods they are using to create dinosaurs (an enhanced version of the original one). One of the rides is called a "Gyrosphere" that you can get in and ride around in the wild to get up close to the Dinos.

RUNNING and SCREAMING

Business is good at the park, but the powers that be start to dream up new ways to keep customers coming back; namely by splicing Dino DNA with other dinos (and other species). That becomes the problem. They splice together a T-Rex, raptor, snake, and cuttlefish to create a monstrous new dino that, of course, gets loose and terrorizes the park. Nothing like a little greed and human arrogance to ruin a good thing, right? Dino expert Jack Horner has teased this bad boy since last year and now we have an idea why he says we'll want to "keep the lights on" after seeing it. He may be right.

GOOD DINO vs. BAD DINO

According to our source, there will be lots of Dino on Dino fighting, as some of the Dinos are "good guys" that are trained by Chris Pratt's character. The raptors and T-Rex are among the "trained" good dinosaurs. The big bad dinosaur has instant camouflage abilities, like the cuttlefish, so he blends into the background, is smart like the velociraptor, uses his jaw like a snake, and can terrorize like the T-Rex. Does this mean the new dino will be the ONLY "bad" one? Or will there be more than one? Unconfirmed, but it will be the catalyst that kicks off the peril.

And that's it! See, not so bad, right? Nothing ruined and a good bit to ruminate on until the next bit of news, set pics, or perhaps something official. Personally, I love it. I love the park being a real, working park and being able to see John Hammond's dream come to life and people enjoying it as such. I love the idea of the "tamed" dinosaurs as well. I know that may sound like blasphemy to some, but it makes sense (in a world where we recreate living dino's, anyway). Having a new "big bad" dino that terrorizes both the humans and "good" dinos should make for a lot of fun. We certainly don't need to see another version of JURASSIC PARK with humans running from a T-Rex and Velociraptors, so I like the idea of having them be more of an ally to a greater threat this time around. I'm sure some will feel differently, but it works for me.

So, what do you think? Does this change your feelings on the film at all? More or less excited?

Director Colin Trevorrow has given little tidbits about the film here and there and filming is currently underway with stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Omar Sy, Ty Simpkins, Irrfan Khan, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer, and Nick Robinson. JURASSIC WORLD stomps into theaters on June 12, 2015.

Will watch but not very excited

Anything containing the concept of dinosaurs makes me a little queasy. Will probably watch it, but considering the history of the previous movies, there no expectations.

I guess my kids and I will have fun watching a color-changing, t-rex whole swallowing godzilla beast, and I would love to see how the theme park would work. However, they need to put some feathers on it and actually talk about feathers in this one. They can say something like the splicing of the frog dna lost the feathers for t-rex, etc.

I'm fine with the training of raptors and t-rex. It's feasible. Why eat something once when it can feed you over and over. I'd like to see the trainers get

I'm fine with the training of raptors and t-rex. It's feasible. Why eat something once when it can feed you over and over. I'd like to see the trainers get beat up from time to time like lions and tigers do to their trainers on occasion. Perhaps pissing off one t-rex at the wrong time gets a trainer everyone hates eaten.

Actually, he doesn't deny it. He tiptoes around it. Read his reply again. There's no denial. There's deflection and tap dancing:

Chris Pratt’s character is doing behavioral research on the raptors. They aren’t trained, they can’t do tricks. He’s just trying to figure out the limits of the relationship between these highly intelligent creatures and human beings. If people don’t think there’s potential in those ideas, maybe they won’t like this movie. But I ask them to give it a chance."

Don't get discouraged guys... trainers do the same thing with crocodiles and they're remnants of what were the dinosaurs.... but ultimately, training back fires and then we'll hear the running and screaming.

I don't know what it is, but i'm getting an AvP vibe about this but a role-reversal as in its the Predators who are bad guys here.

Heck, why not throw in a "touchy" scene were Chris Pratt stands sobing next to his favourite T-rex dying which heroically lost a fight to the spliced monstrocity and then just when all seems lost, Ty Simpkins (whos been double-posted in the credits section btw) shows up in a Dino-Bot mech-suit (Shout-out! wink-wink) and utters: "Prepare to be extinct you ugly

Dinos V Dinos will make the movie exciting. But it's Dino V Human that makes the film memorable.

How does one go about training a Dinosaur exactly?I have this picture in my head of a Raptor chasing a tennis ball,"Fetch."It rolls over and Chris Pratt rubs its tummy. It would be cool if Zoo`s could actually mix and match animal DNA to get more people to go too them.

"let them fight!"

Wow, I think this sounds like a solid premise actually, though I wish they would've gone with the old draft of [link] or I wish I could at least have read it.

Also, Ken W. was so stupid at the 2nd half of Godzilla. For real, let them fight? Why would he think that's the best idea?

You used too many slashes. There's a really annoying encoding error in the Strikebacks; we've got to be careful not to have too many slashes, ellipses or any other symbols that will confuse the coding into thinking it's a link. Dr. Serizawa's "let them fight" comment made sense to me. He was saying that as an alpha predator, Godzilla would eventually defeat the MUTOs. I guess it's like if you have a serious ant problem and there's a spider. You don't want the spider there, but can't get rid of

Not a great fan of the "splicing" idea, because the appeal of Jurassic Park to me was always seeing what dinosaurs might have been like as real living, breathing creatures. "Splicing" monsters immediately makes me think of Sharktopus. However, I love the look of the park. It's got that "Tomorrowland" feel to it and there's a charm to the futuristic style.

I think I would want the creatures to still be physically recognisable as dinosaurs. There was a pretty neat toy line back in the day called Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect. It had "mutant" dinosaurs that were combinations of the DNA from other dinosaurs. The most "extreme" one was the Ultimasaurus, a mix of Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Velociraptor, Ankylosaurus and a Stegosaur. [link] I think that there's a fine line between "cool" and "silly" with an idea like that but I'm really willing to give">

There are several things I don't like about this idea. We have had 2 movies about man trying to control nature (the dinos) and failing. Yet they decide to try again, which seems to just ignore the point of those movies. In fact, they're really just remaking the first film with some minor changes and different characters. But then they decide to add these "trained" dinos to the story, which just feels like a real B-movie gimmick. Seems like this movie will be more Jurassic Park 3 than Jurassic

Taming a Raptor sounds strange. Didn't we technically have a "good" enough T-Rex in the first film that fought the Raptors and inadvertently saved the day for the humans to escape? I'm sure they'll explain how they are actually tamed well enough...(Drugs, DNA tampering?) We'll see.

Fake.

This story just doesn't add up for multiple reasons.

#1) Why would Jack Horner, of all people, be excited about a fake make-em-up dinosaur? I don't buy that for one second. Horner is a paleontologist through & through. No way a fantasy Hollywood creature would excite him.

#2 )Chameleon Dinosaurs called 'Carnotaurus' are in the 'Lost World' book. They were awesome, and I was very disappointed that they weren't in the movie. So if there are chameleon dinosaurs, for real, why splice up a

I actually like the trained Dino's idea and having one part of the film being about that. The big bad spliced dinosaur sounds pretty cool too.

But the concept also sounds a lot like the new Godzilla film. One good monster against one villainous monster.

I just watched the first one on Blu Ray this weekend. I am amazed on how well it's held up for a science fiction movie made in the early 90's.

Me being a Biology major and with a lot of studying on genetic engineering, this isn't really that bad of a concept. I hope that the "big bad" dino isn't perfect though. It would be more compelling if it had some flaws. Trained dinos is a cool idea too. It is what will separate this from the original indefinitely. They really just need to make sure that this is a THRILLER and not a happy movie.

I'm very intrigued from everything I have seen and read. The concept picture of the park looks promising. I like how it looks like a resort giving it a false sense of safety. We bought into the mosquito DNA, so I hope the same will hold true with splicing and trained dinos. Among other things, I am curious about the logistics of a high speed boat travelling around 900-1000 nautical miles to Costa Rica, then having to traverse the country to get off the west coast. I'm looking forward to many

I'm looking forward to many more updates for the next year. I'm hoping this is more of a slow-burner where we are able to care about the characters and learn more about the science of the animals.

I don't know about the whole DNA splicing idea. For me it turns a franchise about dinosaurs co existing in our modern day world to being a typical monster movie. The logic seems flawed too as they spent time figuring out how to tame these dangerous dinosaurs but then they create a super predator by splicing together a bunch of dangerous species. Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time and truthfully this could either surprise me or turn out to be the worst sequel for the franchise.

So how does one take a high powered speedboat from Florida to an island off the coast of Costa Rica?

How do you know that this island is in Costa Rica? Maybe they're changing the location of the island.

The original was pretty "high concept" but Spielberg, grounded it with his usual deft touch. Based on this little synopsis, this one takes the high concept and sticks Fonzi on top of it. Hope it works

That story sounds like complete fabricated bullshit.

Plus I hate that new park design. This is basically a prehistoric zoo, and I have never seen a zoo that wasn't thematically designed according to its exhibits (the first Jurassic Park nailed it). This one looks like a Future World/Space exhibit, not a Dinosaur zoo.

As everyone has mentioned so far, it sounds good until the DNA splicing.

DNA Splicing? Trained dinosaurs?

This sounds like a terrible fan-fiction.

Can't say that I'm a fan of this so far

Splicing together trex, raptor, snake, and cuttlefish? Um, what? And the Trex's and raptors will be good dino's trained by Pratt? Whatever happened to "Can't just suppress 65 million years of gut instinct"? Maybe he will ride it into battle like I saw with Optimus in the last Transformers trailer.
