Faris, Samberg, Cloudy

Anna Faris and Andy Samberg will star in CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS. The animated film will build on the book of the same name by wife-and-husband author/illustrator duo Judi and Ron Barrett. It will be looking into the origins of the town of Chewandswallow, where the weather comes three times a day, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is always food and beverages. The rain is juice and soup, the snow is mashed potatoes, and the wind brings hamburgers. Faris says:

“It’s actually only loosely – very, very loosely – based on the book… But it’s about a small town that rains food, basically. So hamburgers come down, and ice cream, and [the residents] have to figure out a way [stop it]. Eventually, it gets more and more dangerous, and they have to figure out a way to stop the satellite machine that’s raining food… I play the lead female, she’s a weather girl… It should be really fun.”

My immediate reaction to this news is good luck Andy Samberg. Anna Faris makes some downright horrible movie choices, so hopefully this is one of the times she got it right. In fact there was a report recently, where industry professionals postulated she would have a better body of work if she fired her agent and used a Magic 8-Ball to choose projects instead. Or a stick that was vaguely shaped like an arrow. And she could toss it in the air and when it landed it would point to one of the scripts she had laid down on the floor. It’s was a judgment call on those two. Like, technology vs. wood.
