First full trailer for HBO’s Game of Thrones: Season 3 unleases the awesome

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Ah, the epic awesomeness is so close I can taste it!  This first full trailer (well, 60 seconds isn’t exactly “full” but for cable it will suffice) will likely pour grease on the fire of your burning desire to jump back into the world of Westeros (in case you weren’t already in enough pangs of anticipation).  For those unaware, the third season of the show, produced by showrunners David Benieff and D.B. Weiss, is based on the first half of author George R.R. Martin’s third novel in the Song of Ice and Fire series, entitled “A Storm of Swords,” which is arguably the best in the series thus far.  I won’t argue, because I agree and I’m super excited that they made the decision to split up book three into two seasons.  There’s just too much awesome to contain in one.

Winter is…here:

Pretty damn bad ass, eh?  Tons of new characters are abound in this one, including Beric Dondarion (Richard Dormer) and his flaming sword, Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) a.k.a. The King Beyond The Wall, Jojen Reed (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick), the greenseer twins, and many, many more.  If you aren’t familiar with who those characters are, don’t worry about it.  You’ll become very familiar.  This is a great show that can be enjoyed without reading the books, but for those that have fully immersed themselves in the novels it creates an extra layer of excitement, especially with the massive amount of events that will transpire thoroughout the next two seasons.

As always, I ask that no one spoil these “massive events” in the strikeback.  There’s a special place in hell for you if you do.

HBO’s Game of Thrones: Season 3 premieres on Sunday, March 31, 2013.
