First full trailer for HBO's Game of Thrones: Season 3 unleases the awesome

Feb. 23, 2013by:

Ah, the epic awesomeness is so close I can taste it! This first full trailer (well, 60 seconds isn't exactly "full" but for cable it will suffice) will likely pour grease on the fire of your burning desire to jump back into the world of Westeros (in case you weren't already in enough pangs of anticipation). For those unaware, the third season of the show, produced by showrunners David Benieff and D.B. Weiss, is based on the first half of author George R.R. Martin's third novel in the Song of Ice and Fire series, entitled "A Storm of Swords," which is arguably the best in the series thus far. I won't argue, because I agree and I'm super excited that they made the decision to split up book three into two seasons. There's just too much awesome to contain in one.

Winter is...here:

Pretty damn bad ass, eh? Tons of new characters are abound in this one, including Beric Dondarion (Richard Dormer) and his flaming sword, Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) a.k.a. The King Beyond The Wall, Jojen Reed (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick), the greenseer twins, and many, many more. If you aren't familiar with who those characters are, don't worry about it. You'll become very familiar. This is a great show that can be enjoyed without reading the books, but for those that have fully immersed themselves in the novels it creates an extra layer of excitement, especially with the massive amount of events that will transpire thoroughout the next two seasons.

As always, I ask that no one spoil these "massive events" in the strikeback. There's a special place in hell for you if you do.

HBO's Game of Thrones: Season 3 premieres on Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Anyone else looking more forward to this than most movies coming out there year?

It's crazy to think that I was dreading the wait once Season 2 ended. Now, it's so close I can taste it.

Winter has finally come indeed.

Can't wait for the new season. Get Neil Marshall to direct more episodes! :) His Blackwater episode was unbelievable.

Best show on TV. Now Martin just needs to get on with the remaining books.

Sweet, but baffled

I have been loving the show, season 1 was indeed the best so far, maybe because it stuck the closest to the actual story lines. It continues to baffle me why they make these little changes or overlook things that would be so easy to portray on screen. Why change someones costume when it is described in detail in the book, why merge characters, we are not dumb we can handle more than one character an episode. Then they turn around and get some details so right, like the dagger!!!

Really

Really looking forward to how they tie in all the changed plot lines from season two back into season three.

You gotta remember also how big of an experiment this show was, most people thought it unfilmable, and I still can't believe this exists.

I think splitting book 3 into 2 parts was a great decision and I think we're in for 2 of the best seasons TV has ever seen.

I agree with Vini, they have done a remarkable job in creating this show. They obviously need to change or leave some parts of the book out, I think it's more of due to budgets and lack of technology to actually create some of the things in the book. But if all they're going to do is change someone's outfit or have to leave out a character but merge their storyline with someone else's, I'm fine with that.

Eh I can agree with all the normal reasons for changing plots, etc. But they changed a few or the major plot lines, and I am not talking just minor changes. Thats why I am interested to see how they attempt to reattach the threads that they severed in season two to were they belong in season 3.

All I can say is they better not puss out on the Theon plot line.
