First image and synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok has been revealed

01.05.2017

Although I quite like Chris Hemsworth's Thor, I've unfortunately found both Thor-centric Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks to be lacking. They're certainly not bad by any stretch, but they just haven't lived up to the promise of grand outer-space mystical adventure that the world of Asgard is known for. The upcoming THOR: RAGNAROK, directed by Taika Waititi, is looking quite promising and I feel hopeful that it will finally give us the THOR adventure which we've all been waiting for. After spending the past year piecing together exactly what THOR: RAGNAROK will be about, Marvel has finally released the first official synopsis for the film to set the record straight.

In Marvel Studios’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

Not really any big surprises there, but for the first time in a while, I'm finding myself quite excited to see Thor's latest adventure in theaters. A new image has also been revealed, but unfortunately, it's not nearly as interesting. We see Taika Waititi giving some direction to Chris Hemsworth, but I do quite like Thor's stripped down and muted costume. Click to embiggen.

THOR: RAGNAROK will hit theaters on November 3, 2017.

And now this creates a new question: how did Hulk end up in a gladitorial contest on the other side of the universe?

After watching the rest of Taika Waititi's filmography, this has become my most anticipated Marvel film.

IM 3: Tony without his suit (mostly) | Cap 3: Cap without his... love for the govt / following the rules? He leaves his shield behind? | Thor 3: Thor without his hammer. Alright that middle one is a stretch but I'm sensing a theme. In any case, can't wait for this, and we all know Thor & Hulk leave that arena together. The question is how.

I really don't like superhero movies mostly because of this shared Universe shit that makes every marvel movie look the same. Plus the market is oversaturated and most of these movies are dumb and forgettable but the director Waititi is awesome and I like the Hulk so I think this could actually be pretty good.

Don't blame Marvel that everyone's copying them.

I don't care about Marvel or DC. I equally don't like them. But what I always liked about the Batman Franchise is that every director brought a different style to it. The costume, the city everything would look different and even the tone of the movies changed. In the Marvel Universe everything looks the same. It became more of a big TV Show with the same formula. That destroys the magic of cinema for me. But it seems that DC is copying the concept. So things will get even worse...

The design of the title looks like a Sega Megadrive video game...

every child of the 80's know what I am talking about...

I agree with the author, so far Thor is a bit disappointing, far from bad, but just nothing special considering they are supposed to be gods.

Nothing I've heard about the film so far has explained that weird logo yet. Nothing wrong with retro 16bit styling, just want to know if it relates to the plot of the film at all.

I think the logo design is part Waititi humor and part Marvel trying to have people make an unconscious link with Guardians Of The Galaxy (both kind of the SciFi side of the MCU + both set, for a good part, in space + links to the 80's, music for GotG and design of the logo here...)...
Just a thought !
