First trailer for David O. Russells Silver Linings Playbook with DeNiro, Cooper, and Lawrence arrives

Jun. 28, 2012by: Paul Shirey

David O. Russell's follow up to THE FIGHTER looks to be a similar "heartfelt" drama, albeit with a little more quirk.  SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, based on the novel by Matthew Quick, stars Bradley Cooper as a recovering mental patient who bonds with a similarly affected girl in the form of Jennifer Lawrence.  With an impressive supporting cast including Robert DeNiro, Julia Stiles, John Ortiz, and, strangely enough, Chris Tucker, the pic looks pretty good in that quirky drama vein.

Take your meds:

Color me impressed.  What I think works here is the chemistry between Cooper and Lawrence and their playful, off-kilter banter will likely be the highlight of the film.  Also, Jennifer Lawrence wears yoga pants and there's a dance number at the end, so really, what else could you want besides a guest appearance from Christian Bale as Dicky Eklund?  Truly, I love a good, quirky dramedy.

Here's the MOVIE synopsis:

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, a family drama, comedy and love story based on the bestselling novel by Matthew Quick, written and directed by David O. Russell (THE FIGHTER, FLIRTING WITH DISASTER). Starring Bradley Cooper (HANGOVER, LIMITLESS), Jennifer Lawrence (THE HUNGER GAMES, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), Robert De Niro (LIMITLESS, MEET THE PARENTS) Jacki Weaver (ANIMAL KINGDOM), Anupam Kher (BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM), and Chris Tucker(RUSH HOUR, JACKIE BROWN). Rounding out the cast are Julia Stiles, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham and Dash Mihok. Masanobu Takayanagi is the director of photography, Judy Becker is the production designer. Mark Bridges is the costume designer and Jay Cassidy is the editor. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is produced by Donna Gigliotti, Bruce Cohen and Jonathan Gordon. Bob Weinstein, Harvey Weinstein, George Para, Michelle Raimo and Bradley Cooper are the Executive Producers.

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is set for release on November 21, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: What's your favorite David O. Russell film? I'm still partial to Three Kings, but love The Fighter. It's a tough call...

I like it

Lawrence and Cooper play off each other really nicely. I'm not completely sold yet but it's looking good.

Lawrence and Cooper playing crazy people, Tucker playing a straight man. I'm already interested. Looks like a good film, if having that essence of quirky for quirky's sake.

I assume no one really cares, but did this in fact cause an end to the Whalberg/ORussell partnership?

Ehh

Lawrence looks really hot but Cooper doesn't look nearly unhinged enough to be on Lithium.

Even De Niro looks like he's gonna be good in this. Which is in itself enough to recommend it. Glad Jennifer Lawrence is going for more grown-up roles and not wallowing in the teeny-angst demo. And loving the character cast, Chris Tucker, John Ortiz, Jacky Weaver, yeah, this looks like a good movie.

Three Kings is still probably my favorite O. Russell movie, although I credit I Heart Huckabees with being the movie that helped save Mark Wahlberg's career. He was hilarious in that.

I think it looks brilliant. Love the story and the quirky characters. Cooper and Lawrence seem to have great chemistry with one another. Just looks like a really good, sweet, uplifiting film.

I can' wait to see this and The Words ALSO starring Bradley Cooper. The guy sure knows how to pick great films.

Looks pretty good.

I'm pretty sure this might get complaints for treating mental illnesses or "mental illnesses" in a light way.
