Floating hotness! Check out a new image of Sandra Bullock from Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity

07.08.2013

A new image of Sandra Bullock from the upcoming GRAVITY has "floated" online today, thanks to USA Today, who have the shot of the lovely actress and some new information on the film from director Alfonso Cuarón (CHILDREN OF MEN). The anxiety-ridden film "follows Ryan Stone (Bullock), a medical engineer on her first space shuttle mission, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). Their routine mission goes very, very wrong when the shuttle is destroyed, leaving them tethered together and spiraling in space." Cuarón prepared the zero gravity environment for five years, saying:

"We wanted to shoot the whole film showing zero gravity with the actors moving in a choreographic way. This has never been done before. It was a journey of learning. But it looks pretty darn good."

The film is a big committment for Bullock, who took on the challenging role with her usual fortitude. Coming off the summer comedy hit THE HEAT, this is a big change of pace and a smart move, as it keeps her roles diverse and interesting. Being stuck in a rut doesn't do anyone any good these days.

Producer David Heyman echoed Bullock's committment, saying:

"Sandra had to be in tremendous shape for this kind of filming. When she was not shooting she was either spending time with her son or working out for these scenes."

In terms of her character, Cuarón says that Bullock has to face the loneliness and disance of her home world, saying:

"She's confronted with the idea that Earth is so far away. She can see the whole Earth and she doesn't belong to it. What is really scary for people is being lost or alone in the immensity of the void."

GRAVITY will open the Venice Film Festival on August 28, 2013 and Cuarón will also show off footage at Comic Con during Warner Bros. panel on July 20, 2013.

GRAVITY hits theaters on October 4, 2013.

Not jumping on the bandwagon...

of Bullock hating, but when I saw the trailer for this movie in front of the midnight premiere of Man of Steel....almost the entire theater burst out laughing at it. Just the entire premise is silly and unintentionally hilarious. In my experience, I've never been to the movies and seen such a universal, negative response to a single trailer like I saw with the trailer for this. I'll catch it on FX when they inevitably buy the rights to this movie in 5 years

So the plausible circumstance of an astronaut being stuck in space is silly, but an alien dressing up in a skintight latex suit with a cape to fight crime is serious and normal?

No one was saying she wasn't a great person or America's sweetheart or whatever. I don't dislike her. I just don't find her to be that outstanding an actress or particularly hot (as the title alluded). End of "criticism". She is a capable movie star and seems like a decent person. Just like Tom Hanks is a nice guy, big star, but not a sex symbol. Nothing wrong with it. Though he is a much better actor IMO.

Where is all the Sandra Bullock hate coming from, it just doesn't make sense? Plus it's Cuaron we are talking about, the guy has never made a bad movie. Ya gotta respect Bullock for trying to make something different.

WOW that was one intense movie trailer!

What's with the haterade?

It's like Jim Jones gave you all Kool-Aide mixed with Sandra Bullock-hatred mix rather than cyanide. Sandra Bullock has never been much of a sex symbol, but it's also because she's never marketed herself as such. If the Blind Side hadn't grossed 256 MILLION DOLLARS as a glorified Hallmark Channel original, there was no way she would have even been considered for best actress. But- in hollywood awards are as political as they are genuine. Anyway, I've always liked Bullock, at least I've never

It's not like this is a movie filled with iconic characters and Bullock doesn't fit the part. It's an original story- they could've cast ANYBODY. I'm fine with her in this. Screw you haters. Sorry.

Wow. Plenty of Bullock hate. I'm not arguing, just think she's serviceable & capable of handling this part. Its not like she's going to act like Ms.Congeniality against Cuaron's wishes.

Speaking of which, I'd be excited for a new Cuaron film even if friggin' Tara Reid was starring...

Wow. That trailer looks like serious business. It's been a good while since a Bullock film has intrigued me. This one is it.

I don't particularly dislike her as an actress but I'm sure there was a better casting choice for this project. It kinda brings to mind Cameron Diaz's casting in The Counsellor. I hope both instances turn out to pleasantly surprise us. Well, I think Sandra Bullock was hot in The Net.

Interested in this, but like the other posts below, the weak link here is Sandra Bullock. I just don't know if I can see her doing a good job in this.

i came here to say pretty much exactly

what DoB said first. The idea of a new Cuaron film should have me psyched, but I'm a bit bummed that Bullock is in it. I'd be more excited if this were someone else.

Big fan of Cuaron, and the premise sounds promising, but Bullock has never done much for me. She is a pretty woman but nothing about her seems even vaguely sexy to me. And her acting is nothing special. Her Oscar win is one of the more absurd gifts the academy has ever bestowed. If you are a big movie star long enough the Academy will find a way to get you an Oscar. She seems nice and personable enough, but that doesn't make her a great actress.

Halle Berry winning an Oscar was a much MUCH bigger gift.

But I think the role she won for required a lot more than the role Bullock won for did. Berry definitely isn't Meryl Streep either, but winning best actress for The Blind Side was completely absurd. Monster's Ball is a much different film.
