Forster Wages War

11.14.2008

Mark Forster's genre-hopping tendencies continue, as the cinematic chameleon is set to direct his first zombie feature. Having just hopped off the set of some spy thriller that's being released today, Forster has signed on to direct WORLD WAR Z, about a planet ravaged by that brain-eating miscreant. Based on the best-selling novel by Mel Brooks' boy Max Brooks, the film will follow a researcher for the U.N. Postwar Commission as he interviews survivors from countries all over the world, 10 years after a zombie-related crisis, to gather a first-person post-mortem on a war that destroyed every country on the map. Sounds grim.

The film is being produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B and will be written by THE CHANGELING scribe J Michael Straczynski. Now all Forster needs to do is a silent German expressionist film and a snuff film and I think he's done it all.

I wasn't really a fan of Stay (visually, it was freaking great), but Finding Neverland and Stranger than Fiction are my two favorite Forster films. Haven't seen The Kite Runner yet, but I've heard lots of good things about that one.

I'm pretty much game for anything he does now.

The book is great and while I was reading it all I could think of was how it would make a great movie if done right. You people who are complaining about the director need a wake up call. It could have been Ratner.

Cool enough.

I know I'm a little in the minority but I think Forster is one the best of the industry's new directors. He brought a lot of discipline to Will Farrell's acting with "Stranger Than Fiction" and he almost made me cry with "Finding Neverland." And "The Kite Runner" was a masterpiece to me, certainly his best work. As far as these complaints that "Quantom..." is all action and little heart, I am fairly disappointed to here that because I would expect Forster, based on his previous works, not to

But I won't know until I see the movie I guess.

Bad director good idea...

i read the book and it's very cool, very different take on the z-genre. but the director for this material should not be forster.

someone is a Danny Boyle wannabe

He is one of those directors I want to like, but I just don't. Monster's Ball is good, but he ruined the Kite Runner and I have heard nothing but bad things about Quantum.

Liked Monster's Ball and Stranger than Fiction. Curious about Bond, but while I liked Kite Runner, I didn't see what the fuss was about Finding Neverland.

Monster's Ball meh, Kite Runner sucked, Finding Neverland boring, Quantum Of Solace he raped.
I don't think he's a good director at all. He gets good movies to direct but somehow he bends them forward and penetrates.

Awesome news, love his work.

Side-note: It's Marc, not Mark. Spelling counts.

i never really cared for Stranger Than Fiction or Finding Neverland, but enjoyed Monster's Ball and The Kite Runner, but hopefully Quantum Of Solace will be my new favorite.

"Finding Neverland" but "Stranger Than Fiction" is not far behind.

I read "The Zombie Survival Guide" and it was just dandy, so this should be quite awesome as well.

Man, I think that Forster has to have the most diverse resume of almost any director with under 10 major films to his name. He amazes me every time out. I knew that the book had been optioned, and, im glad theres a class director attached to it and not some random hack. coughcough-any micheal bay Platinum Dunes remake-cough cough

Oh, and, having the babylon 5 guy adapt it is a stroke of pure genius. Oh, and, Finding Neverland
