Fox is bringing The Expendables to TV with Sylvester Stallone producing

When Sylvester Stallone introduced the world to THE EXPENDABLES, the idea was to assemble the biggest and best action film stars and unite them . . . with lots of guns. The results of the three films so far have been decidedly mixed, and while sequels are in various stages of development, it looks like the next step will be bringing this template to television. Fox will be developing an Expendables TV show with Stallone himself producing alongside series producer Avi Lerner. According the Deadline, the series is being described as a "fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist."

No one's approached to star yet, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to round up some of the top leading folks of TV for this premise. The show obviously can't compete with the films in terms of budget but perhaps they can cook up something equally fun, taking advantage of the weekly format. Television shows are becoming more sophisticated by the year so I'm sure Stallone and crew can wrangle up some impressive names for this roster, with Sly making appearances every now and again.

Any chance we can get Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton in on this?

Crews In

Of course Terry Crews will be in it, he's in everything on TV!
Tie it in with Brooklyn 99 and Terry can ask for vacation leave and then go fight the bad guy and come back from vacation. No one in the precinct will know his secret identity.

I always felt The Expendables franchise was more than just a throwback to the 80s & 90s movies, but also to the over the top shows also like Airwolf, Fall Guy, Dukes of Hazzard, The A Team, etc etc. So yes this could actually work if done right & not become a parody of itself.

DEAN CAIN!!!

I'd bet on chuck Norris. But I think the show absolutely can compete with the film's budget. The helicopters in E3 were horrendous.

At this point Stallone should star in it because its not like his films are breaking the box office. Then it would be awesome to bring in Mr.T, Hell he could bring Lundgren, Crews, Couture, and Li with him its not like they are doing anything else. I love the suggestion of bringing in Lee Majors. Norris could show up every now and then as a certain Texas Ranger to roundhouse some people in the face too!

Not a bad idea considering there are lots of TV actors / actresses that we haven't seen a while.

If the show goes about things by gettng just a bunch of TV icons (and actors like Jimmy Smits who just never have done well outside television), there might be a novelty to it. But there's just a small difference between doing that, and the many [link] TV shows that come out every year. The first movie at least felt borderline revolutionary at the time. Mainly, I don't think this idea would work well for an ensemble TV show. Just get Tom Selleck and Don Johnson as a duo.

It's fun seeing all those action stars together. The TV show could be great fun, as well...but you better find a role for Lee Majors!

Paging Lucy Lawless . . .

Sarah Michelle Gellar should definitely get a phone call.

He wasn't an action star back in the day, but I admit James Van der Beek looked freakin' good in the POWER RANGERS fan film; he should be in the mix as well.

Well ok.

The concept is open for a tv show and the world has been waiting for a proper A Team rip-off for nearly thirty years.

I freakin' love the Expedables movies.

Whe i go see the Expendables, im not going to see inteligent plot, character development, romance, or social comentary. I am going in to see overly muscular men, firing rediculously large guns, at cartoonish villains. The Expendables delivers that. It doesn't try to be anything else. The movies are pure fun, it's like a sugar rush, you wouldn't want it for a meal, or every day, but you can't deny the enjoyment it brings people. I dont want this series

I dont want this series to ever end, i want it to be a revolving door of action stars teaming up. In Expendables 5 we will see Will Smith fighting Jackie Chan,. In Expendables 8 Channing Tatum joins forces with Daniel Craig to fight Matt Damon. Who cares why they are fighting.

That being said, Expendables 3 fell short with having a PG13 rating, while i still enjoyed the movie for what it was, i look forward to Expenables 4 with Stallone promising only R-rating from now on. Also the Expendabells.

and we should also have a Mexican Expenables, using Bandares as the bridge, this movie would have Danny Trejo, Javier Bardem, Selma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, John Lequizamo, and Carlo Estavez.

Then we have Chinese Expendables with Jet Li's character as the bridge. That one would have Donnie Yen, Yun-Fat Chow, Chia-Hui Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Ming-Na Wen, Tony Jaa and of course Jackie Chan

the possiblities of these movies are endless

80s & 90s staples

If they follow the format of the movie and get guys who were household names way back when it could work. Just like RandomVillain below me said, Tom Selleck, Hasselhoff, Kevin Sorbo, macgyver, etc... It's if they try to go current, ala liam hemsworth, then they'll fail. Keep it cheesy, keep it awesome

How about this....

Why don't networks come up with new and interesting IPs to present us and let them run for more than a season and build viewership instead of putting them on Friday Night's where they'll tank? I'm talking directly to you Fox.

As long as they're playing different characters than the movie versions, then I'm all for it. I need a good action show now 24 has gone again.

check out "Banshee" if you need a current action show that's worth a watch. Probably the best fight choreography ever seen on TV.
