Full international trailer for Les Miserables starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway

Nov. 8, 2012by:

The first full trailer for Tom Hooper's adaptation of the hit musical LES MISERABLES is now online, which is likely to sweep you up with emotion or send you running for the hills, depending on your tastes.  Some folks just can't get into musicals, but I think they're cheating themselves of some solid entertainment.  And, I'm not really into them, but absolutely enjoy the best of the batch. With some seemingly amazing performances coming from the amazing cast of Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Sacha Baron-Cohen and epic-scaled directing from Hooper (THE KING'S SPEECH) this is sure to make people "sing."

Have a look:

There's been a large amount of adaptations of LES MISERABLES on both the small and big screen, but this one really does look like it'll take the top prize as the one to beat.  You can find out for yourself when the movie sings to theaters on December 25, 2012

Extra Tidbit: Has anyone seen the Liam Neeson version? Any good?

Anyone see the stage version?

If done right, the role of Eponine has Oscar bait written all over it. Of the whole cast, Samantha Barks is the one i'm sure will get multiple nominations this season as best supporting actress, having received praise for playing her character on the stage as well. Expect her name to appear a lot more in the next few years.

An excellent trailer for my most-anticipated film of the year besides TDKR and Skyfall, and those have come and gone...I can't wait one day more! Bring it on.

God, I love this musical! Brilliant music, and why it stand miles above all other musicals is the story based on Victor Hugo's novel. One of the best books ever written.

Extra Tidbit: The cast is amazing (Neeson was a natural born Jean Valjean), and most of the movie is great. But you know... It has a Happy Ending. A bit strange. And this musical version looks ten times more epic than that version was.

Tidbit

In my opinion It's a must see. Neeson is amazing and Geoffrey Rush is such a great villain. If musicals aren't your bread and butter you can see this one to get the gist of the story.

I couldn't possibly be more excited for this. And while I've always wanted to see this musical, I'm so glad I haven't — and that this version gets to be the first I experience. The singing, the cinematography, the acting... this is what films are meant to be!

Best trailer yet

Finally showing the actors singing and what variety this movie has.

I just also want to point out that there are several lines SPOKEN in the trailer that are SUNG in the stage version. Rent and Phantom of the Opera both did this with their film versions. They cut the song but kept the scene as dialogue only. It really messed with the pacing of the movies and was annoying to watch as a fan of both stage versions. I'm not dismissing this feature right away, it could work in this cast. I just

Is there a run time of this yet? The Stage version runs around 180 minutes, and that includes intermission, entr'acte, and overture. Things that can be cut from the film version. A solid 150 minute film would be perfectly grand and enough time to include the full scope of the stage version.

I read the screenplay. There's added dialogue from the book. They basically added dialogue, but most of what is supposed to be sung is still sung. Plus some clever rearranging and new scenes all together.

It's almost entirely intact in adaptation. The studio has already confirmed it will run over two and a half hours. Only a few song verses have been cut here and there, and song order has been changed ("Lovely Ladies" occurs before "I Dreamed A Dream", which will work much better in the film), and lots of little details have been added from the book.

Besides Russel sounding as strained as Gerard Butler in Phantom, this looks unbelievably epic! My fav musical. Playing Valjean in college was a role I'll never forget. I'll be there at midnight if they have such a showing.
