G.I. JOE

Yesterday, shots of the main players in the upcoming Stephen Sommers directed G.I. JOE feature adaptation landed at select internet destinations. Today, Paramount was cool enough to provide us with high res stills of the whole lot that debuted yesterday, including an apparently overlooked Marlon Wayans as Ripcord. Click for their respective high res shots. The Joe action starts August 7th.

The more I see of this the more I hate it. I have to echo other complaints that they all look the same, which is stupid, and it DOES look a LOT like DOOM. And that's not a good thing. I don't get how movies are getting made like this, it just boggles my mind. Of course I haven't seen the movie, but I will and will probably hate it.

Too futuristic
Most the costumes look like leftovers from street fighter or Doom, nothing special. Maybe its just me, but these pictues seem more like from a futuristic sci-fi movie than a GI Joe film.

This toolshed is Duke?? It's nice to see the makeup dept can draw in a realistic goatee on the young buck. Count me out, however, a Snakes Eyes vs. Storm Shadow movie...thats a different story.

They're all wearing the same costumes.. wow. This movie sounded like shit, got casted like shit, and now even LOOKS dark as shit. It'll probly smell like shit if you dare go into the theater it's playing in.

This is one series that didn't need a major overhaul in the looks department - unlike X-men. Snake eyes and Storm Shadow look amazing,But, the rest of the cast is laughable. I like Dennis Quaid, but this just doesn't fit him at all. Why the fuck is Destro not looking like Destro? We get the guy that said one of the worst lines in Hollywood history "When it rains, it pours"(Gone in Sixty...

I never thought I'd say this without any racial context, but those are all very... black. And I'm sorry to say that the one I'm most uncomfortable with is Duke, he's just so blah that it doesn't strike me as very well done in the least.

Why?
A lot of the fun about GI Joes comes from their radically differing costumes. But here, they all seem to be dressed alike. Sure, it makes them seem more unified, and coordinated, but it doesn't make them feel like they've got different personalities.

This might be a fun time...
I'm semi-exited for this and I'm definitely curious to see how Cobra Commander turns out. This can easily be hit or miss, but at least Snake Eyes + Storm Shadow look badass and Scarlett is appropriately hot.
