<a href=G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA" /> We've been assaulted with media for the Stephen Sommers directed, comic and toy adapted actioner G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA for quite a while now and the general fanboy consensus seemed to be that the film looks like a steaming pile of manure, due in large part to the unbelievably cheesy dialogue and ridiculously over-the-top action - things that only appeal to those of us with a soft spot for brainless action spectacle of the Michael Bay variety.

A screening was recently held, however, that left a lot of people feeling surprisingly positive about the film. Some downright enjoyed the hell out of it while some said it's not nearly as bad as they were expecting while some offered that despite its mindless action and cheesy dialogue, it's at least better than TRANSFORMERS 2. Go to AICN, Latino Review or Collider to read exactly what these people had to say.

It seems like this movie boils down to one word: Fun. And isn't that what Summer's all about? Decide for yourself on August 7th.

JoBlo.com is doing its job by covering this, sure, but it seems that they are falling for the studio's scheme designed to combat the negative word of mouth this movie has been plagued with, by reporting this "news" that GI Joe isn't as bad as first reported.



The first time I saw this trailer, I knew. And the people who saw the first screening proved it. No matter what the PR...

i ain't gonna rush to the cinema for this but it'll prob be fun on cable in the comfort of my own home.



wanna see an amazing, tension filled, action packed and at times genuinely funny flick about crazy gung ho soldiers at war... see hurt locker.

I work in a business where we have to watch movies a month in advance to help set up a portion of the advertising (I cant say more than that) but everyone on staff HATED transformers but LOVED GI Joe.

If I can sit through Revenge of the Fallen I can sit through anything. At least this seems to have more of a story even though it still may not make sense.

If you enjoyed The Mummy, you'll love Joe. There are some really cool action scenes and it doesn't take itself too seriously. It is set to be a three picture franchise, so there is a obvious sequel set-up ending. We will see Serpentor and others come to development in the next film.



Anyone interested? I found out that both 'Terror Train' and 'The Funhouse' have been given the...

CVD has a point
I do agree with the consensus that Sommers can deliver some good entertaining romps but CVD nailed the problem with Van Helsing. It was casting right down the line. Roxburgh was appalling as Dracula, the guy playing the Monster was like a hmmed up operatic has been which is a shame as it had all the premise of a great idea. Who doesn't love Universal Monsters?!

The guy knows how to deliver a fun film, THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS were both fun flicks and VAN HELSING wasn't that bad, even though he does go over the top sometimes with the action and CGI his films are ultimateley fun to watch.



I never thought this film would suck, the trailer alone made me want to watch G.I. JOE and I wasn't even a fan of the cartoon series, I bet this...

I'm gunna throw this out there...
it's not okay to play a Kid Rock song with your trailer. It makes me want to see the movie less. And I mean, WAY less.

Haha. That made me want to see it more! I saw that trailer and after thinking the movie looked completely ridiculous and stupid made me realize the people who made it understand that it is ridiculous and stupid.

I actually liked Van Helsing
Granted, I hated the initial viewing in theaters, but gave it another chance on Cable and eventually bought the DVD. That movie is completely misunderstood IMO!!!

Can't wait!
Stephen Sommers fucked up with Van Helsing(actually the casting directors did) but... every other film he's made I've loved. I'm actually excited to see this(which I wasn't until I heard he was directing). Please god, never allow Richard Roxburgh to be a villain in a movie, ever again!!! For once I'm glad to see Christopher "When it rains, it pours" Eccleston.

OBVIOUSLY could be WAY better, and should follow the cartoon/comics ALOT more... but it does look VERY entertaining and that should count for something.



And I for one found Transformers 2 in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM entertaing, fun, etc.. at all. Just boring, stupid, offensive, god-awful peice of shit through and through.

The only reason why this shit will get decent reviews is because the critics feel bad for Stephen Sommers.



Besides, Transformers 2(despite it's flaws) was at least entertaining.

Honestly, it still looks fucking terrible to me. I can't picture myself enjoying it any more then maybe laughing at it. I'll def. give it a chance on DVD but no way am I paying for this.
