Gina Carano is the first to sign on for the all female version of The Expendables

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

We have been hearing rumors of a female EXPENDABLES movie for a while now but now Variety has confirmed it is coming and Gina Carano will star.

The all lady action movie will be produced by Adi Shankar’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors (worst name for a production company ever?) and will be written by Dutch Southern. Shankar has also produced THE GREY, DREDD 3D, KILLING THEM SOFTLY, and Thomas Jane’s Punisher short film DIRTY LAUNDRY.

“I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba,” said Shankar,

There are numerous female action stars who would be perfect for this movie. While Carano is the only official name at this point, Shankar could end up pursuing Cynthia Rothrock, Bridgette Nielsen, Jennifer Garner, Lucy Lawless, Lena Headley, Zoe Saldana, Zhang Ziyi, Linda Hamilton, Summer Glau, Angelina Jolie, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Yeoh, Michelle Rodriguez, or Sharon Stone.

I think this EXPENDA-BELLES idea could be interesting as long as it doesn’t turn into a joke of itself. Women are vastly underused in action roles and seeing classics and young upstarts kick ass together would be hot. And awesome. But mostly hot.
