David Goyer's new movie, THE UNBORN has gotten its first trailer that you can check out, courtesy of MTV, below. In the film, a young woman fights a spirit that is slowly trying to take over her. Cam Gigandet (NEVER BACK DOWN), Meagen Good (THE LOVE GURU) and Gary Oldman (LEON) co-star. How he got Oldman I have no idea.

First impression? The movie looks like THE INVISIBLE, which is basically a burn. I don't want to say that movie was so bad it killed Magarita Levieva's career but I haven't seen her since and she's so much more naturally beautiful than most of the other actresses on the planet that it's almost embarrassing. Good luck Odette Yustman, I guess.

Some pretty creepy imagery in there, I wasn't getting an overall good vibe from it though. It'll probably end up being PG-13 too which pretty much castrates a horror film.

The one thing aside from Oldman this thing has significantly going for it is it looks a lot more out-there image-wise than most January horror releases, like that psycho priest with crazy eyes.

That said, I don't have much faith in it.

This looks pretty damn promising. Lots of effective, creepy imagery in that trailer.

From the trailer it looks like this horror film comes from the kitchen sink school of film making.

Yeah for about half a second I thought the picture for the bottom clip was Connelly.

Goyer's a pretty decent writer (although his best work is produced when he was amazing co-wirters to work with, i.e. Jonathan Nolan and Alex Proyas), but I do not care one bit for him as a director.

(In my opinion, so feel free to disagree):

1. David Self

2. David Hayter

3. David Goyer

4. David Ayer

5. David Twohy

They're all talented writers (who have each writting at least one amazing film and one very crappy film), but none of those who've tried their hand at directing have impressed me.

That chick looks like some kind od Jennifer Connely/Megan Fox hybrid. Other than that, ya, looks like another crappy horror flick. That crab-walking old dude was kinda fucked up though.

Let's see here:

- Dimwitted teenage characters

- Creepy kid

- A most definite PG-13 rating

- A non-actor (Meagan Good) who was only hired because she got a nice rack and ass

- January release date

Yes, this has all the makings of a horror "classic". And by that I mean a huge, smelly turdpile.

Im gonna have to agree with what BrokerDreamer said. Goyer really hasnt had a good track run other than the two Batman movies. And it seems like Nolan had more to do with the final script than Goyer did. Most of his stuff was probably re-written by Nolan when they were filming. I was unfortunate enough to see The Invisible and it was just absolutley terrible, one of the few times I actually...

So this looks like nothing more than another crappy movie to add to the tons of other terrible horror movies of the past 5 years.

From the Clips I've Seen . . .
David Goyer has failed to show himself a capable director. In all honesty, I don't think he is a very good writer, either. He gets credit for Batman Begins, but I suspect a lot of the corny dialogue that made me cringe was his doing, especially since the next movie (by Jonah and Chris Nolan) seemed to have less of the corny dialogue. It doesn't seem like he has the vision to create good...

As for Gary Oldman, he probably agreed to do the film because of Batman Begins, where they worked together (albeit in a limited capacity).

Having watched the trailer, it seems to re-enforce my statement. It seems like a generic, unoriginal horror movie with creepy characters appearing to spook the audience. The difference is that this is not a direct remake of a Japanese horror film.
