Goyer's Unborn trailer
Oct. 9, 2008
David Goyer's new movie, THE UNBORN has gotten its first trailer that you can check out, courtesy of MTV, below. In the film, a young woman fights a spirit that is slowly trying to take over her. Cam Gigandet (NEVER BACK DOWN), Meagen Good (THE LOVE GURU) and Gary Oldman (LEON) co-star. How he got Oldman I have no idea.
First impression? The movie looks like THE INVISIBLE, which is basically a burn. I don't want to say that movie was so bad it killed Magarita Levieva's career but I haven't seen her since and she's so much more naturally beautiful than most of the other actresses on the planet that it's almost embarrassing. Good luck Odette Yustman, I guess.

Extra Tidbit: Goyer sold his comic book collection en masse to the drummer from System of a Down.

That said, I don't have much faith in it.

Goyer's a pretty decent writer (although his best work is produced when he was amazing co-wirters to work with, i.e. Jonathan Nolan and Alex Proyas), but I do not care one bit for him as a director.

(In my opinion, so feel free to disagree):
1. David Self
2. David Hayter
3. David Goyer
4. David Ayer
5. David Twohy
They're all talented writers (who have each writting at least one amazing film and one very crappy film), but none of those who've tried their hand at directing have impressed me.

- Dimwitted teenage characters
- Creepy kid
- A most definite PG-13 rating
- A non-actor (Meagan Good) who was only hired because she got a nice rack and ass
- January release date
Yes, this has all the makings of a horror "classic". And by that I mean a huge, smelly turdpile.

As for Gary Oldman, he probably agreed to do the film because of Batman Begins, where they worked together (albeit in a limited capacity).
Having watched the trailer, it seems to re-enforce my statement. It seems like a generic, unoriginal horror movie with creepy characters appearing to spook the audience. The difference is that this is not a direct remake of a Japanese horror film.
