Great new featurettes for Star Wars: Rebels introduce two characters

Jul. 10, 2014by: Sean Wist

More often than not, featurettes are filled to the brim with shots repeated from a trailer, with a sentence or two from the cast that tells you something you already knew, and maybe a tiny shred of new information. Color me surprised when I actually sat down (confession: I was already sitting down) to watch these two new featurettes released for Star Wars: Rebels. Now, I'll be the first to tell you that as much of a Star Wars fan as I am, I was pretty indifferent to its animated endeavors (Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars aside, which was awesome). I couldn't make it through the first season of Star Wars: Clone Wars, and Star Wars: Rebels was never really on my radar. With that said, I was pretty fascinated by the following featurettes, detailing the makings of the R2-esque droid Chopper, and the Imperial poster boy Kallus.

Check out how a droid is made:

Introducing the rebellion's newest threat:

Initially, Rebels seemed like just a continuation of Clone Wars (not so much in story, but in spirit), but I'm increasingly becoming more interested in this project. If they keep featurettes like this coming our way, I may be inclined to make room in my schedule to actually watch the pilot when it hits Disney this Fall. Couldn't be any worse than that Clone Wars pilot that hit theaters, right?

Star Wars: Rebels will air with a one-hour special on Disney XD this Fall.

Extra Tidbit: What did you think of Clone Wars as a whole?

Clone Wars was great. Maybe not all of it, but it had great adventures, cool characters, and some mighty fine designs.
It was getting better and better as it went on.
I hope Disney doesn't mess this new series up.

@ Masterwhatever......

Did you even watch Clone Wars? Granted not every episode was great, but it did have some that were. It made up for a lot of the crap that happened in the prequel films. And you know why we dont have live action Star Wars film - too expensive, and lord knows what it would have been like if Lucas was running it. CGI everywhere.

CLONE WARS improved

the farther it went from George Lucas' influence. I thought it was headed in interesting directions; it was a shame they killed it.

This series looks like a fun ride. I'm cautiously optimistic about it.

Clone wars sucked, it was a kids show.

Why can't we get a real Star Wars show, with live action actors or if it HAS to be animated, keep it more serious and not made for 10 year old's like Clone Wars.

Clone Wars had Jar Jar as a main character. 'Nuff said. It was made to sell toys, not be anything "greaT in the SW universe
