Green Lantern's space ship arrives from the heavens

I guess I didn't realize that GREEN LANTERN is already shooting, as it seems like just yesterday that Ryan Reynolds was announced as the titular hero, but I suppose with CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR on the way, DC kind of needs to get their ass in gear.

A reader over at ComicBookMovie was on the film’s set in LA when they snapped the picture below which shows some kind of spaceship being lowered into the water. CBM explains the significance:

Anyone familiar with Green Lantern mythology should know that there is one space ship that is crucial to Hal Jordan's origin story. That ship belonged to his predecessor Abin Sur; who crash landed on Earth before passing his duties onto the former test pilot. The intricate design of Abin's ship has varied throughout the years, but it's sleek, silver look has remained consistent.

I would have thought that in this day and age all that would just be CGI, but it’s nice to see they’re still occasionally using physical objects in blockbuster movies.

Extra Tidbit: This is being shot in 3D right? The lantern ring powers were made for that format.

As cheesy as that ship looks with the blue light, it's a non-production still frame so I'll reserve judgment. This movie could be great though.. Martin Campbell is an insanely underrated director.

As long as a Dodge logo doesn't end up on the front of it, I think I'll be alright with this.

3D!

Man this could be epic if it was filmed with James Camerons 3D tech.

I can't believe it is being wasted on the RE movie... I haven't heard anything about this movie yet, hopefully if it is 3D, then it is shot that way and not just added on later...
