Has the villain for Bond 24 already been found?

Sep. 24, 2012by: Alex Maidy

We still have a couple of months before SKYFALL hits theaters and there are already rumors popping up about the potential villain for the 24th Bond film. Sony and EON want to try and get the next Bond film in production next year for a 2014 release date, likely to capitalize on Daniel Craig's extended contract and to make up for the missed time between QUANTUM OF SOLACE and SKYFALL.

SKYFALL looks to complete the origin story of James Bond seeing as the introduction of Q in the film will complete his evolution from rogue agent to debonair spy. Javier Bardem looks like he is the first Bond villain since the days of Pierce Brosnan to truly fit the bill. His character appears a little over the top and quirky. But, who could possibly be cast to take over duties from someone like Bardem?

According to British newspaper The Express, producers are looking at none other than:

Benedict Cumberbatch. That is right, Cumberbatch may be adding Bond villain to his growing resume that also includes STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and THE HOBBIT films. Cumberbatch is a phenomenal actor that we all have learned to love in BBC's SHERLOCK as well as an excellent turn in TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY.

The Express quotes an unnamed source, so this could be complete conjecture, but Cumberbatch would play an awesome villain. He would make a great counter-balance to the rough and tumble version of Bond that Craig plays. I wonder if they would make him a new villain or possibly take on a new version of someone like Goldfinger or Blofeld.

What do you think of Cumberbatch as a Bond villain?

I gotta admit...

the guy acts his ass off. I was really impressed with him in Tinker Tailor and of course, Sherlock is awesome.

Yes!

Benedict is superb in the bbc Sherlock series. I would love to see him as the next villian. Someone mentioned they wanted a more physical villian for Bond, well Benedict is taller than Craig and I'm sure he could bulk up a bit to be even more intimidating. Benedict is a weird looking dude and a great actor. I believe he could potentially be a hugely menacing villian for Bond.

I'd love to see how Cumberbatch plays the Star Trek villain - him as a Bond villain could certainly be cool! I was actually hoping that Bond would be up against an older figure from M's past, like a traitor/possibly former love interest who's come back to seek revenge on Bond's boss. But Cumberbatch could work well too. Maybe the giant twist is the villain is Q's brother, since Cumberbatch and Ben Whishaw bear a passing resemblance.

Don't tease me....

I'm watching season 2 of Sherlock on Netflix right now, and he is a great actor. I hope this happens! It seems like these next couple Bond films are going to be amazing! Bring em on!

Not a bad choice, but...

I think for the next Bond film we need a villain who looks like they're kick Bond's ass. We've already seen Craig go up against some of the "intellectual villains", and although Bardem is a big dude Craig seems more physical. I think it'll be a shame if the most action-oriented Bond doesn't get an equally action-oriented villain sometime soon.

Have you seen the BBC Sherlock series or any of his other works? If yes, then nothing will get you to come around to (what I think is) the popular opinion about him. If no, then I highly recommend that you check it out. It honestly puts RDJ's Sherlock Holmes movies to shame. And that's not because those movies are bad by any stretch of the imagination, it's because Sherlock, led by Cumberbatch's incredible acting, is just that much better. He's no Sean Connery or anything like that (at least,

I have, and I'm not saying I don't like him at all, it's just that he doesn't blow me away as he seems to do to everyone else.
