Higher Ground to be Vera Farmgia’s directorial debut

The lovely Oscar-nominated Vera Farmiga (UP IN THE AIR, THE DEPARTED) will soon be making her directorial debut with the indie drama HIGHER GROUND.

According to Production Weekly’s Twitter feed, HIGHER GROUND will be based on Carolyn Briggs’ memoir This Dark World, which Amazon.com describes as “a riveting memoir of one woman’s immersion into Fundamentalist faith, and her decision, twenty years later, to leave it all behind.” Farmiga will also star, playing the role of “Carolyn”. On writing duties will be Tim Metcalfe (BONES, KALIFORNIA, REVENGE OF THE NERDS).

Filming is expected to begin in Upstate New York this June. Farmiga’s recent Oscar nod for the UP IN THE AIR has propelled her into a whole slew of projects, including A THOUSAND GUNS, HENRY’S CRIME, Duncan Jones’s SOURCE CODE, and W.E. – a film directed by Madonna?
